Ran the test with two 1gb chips in.. Test finished "passed" no problems..

However, windows keeps rebooting by itself? or If I leave to get coffee and come back it "Froze" and I have to reboot..

As a matter of fact, this is my 5th time trying to type this as its rebooted itself!

What I just did was took 1 ram chip out. So far has not crashed. (yet, only been on for 3 min)

the ram chip I ordered is the same chip. The reordered chip is in the PC now. I can run any chip by itself fine, yet whrn I try to run both I get issues.. I have tried re-installing in different slots, same effect..

Under the advanced tab in "start-up/recovery" I unchecked "Automatic Restart" that did not help....

    Any ideas

From the picture of your motherboard, it looks like you might have dual channel memory but I cannot be sure. The ram slots have 2 colors. When you fill up one color, you have dual channel memory but if you use 3 it backs down to single channel. Not sure if this is your problem.

Edit: Your motherboard does support dual channel

Basicly, I think maybe 1 of the blue slots are bad.. The reason I say this iswhen I plug both chips in the PC will not start-up windows. When I remove one it does..

ok, I did some driver updates AND THE CRASHING STOPPED.

I took the PC tower back to customers house and fired it up. All works fine eccept the Monitor. There is no RED... seems like it should have more setting in the display pannel.

Anyway, here is some screen shots..

I installed monitors drivers for XP from the HP support site. still no red...

    Its a HP w1907

I just noticed that under Color of the OSD you can select Custom to set the Red level:

    I downloaded these two items..

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=3709665&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093

    Was I not to?

Also when I turned the PC on for the first time at "His House" it "Found New Hardware" I did the wizard search & XP cd and it stated cant find software.. There is a yellow mark under other with "Unknown Item" I assume its the Monitor..

    What should I do?
    Thanks

It was okay for you to install the items. I was just curious what they were. Since you have already installed the drivers for the monitor, I am not sure what it would be unless you were working on the computer with a different monitor but you can try looking up the Vendor and Device ID as in my other post and see what it may be by going to PCIDatabase.com. Did you fix the red problem on the monitor?

Yes, I was working on the PC here at my house with an old monitor of mine.. When I took it to his house and plugged it back into his big flat screen it found new hardware, could not install it, and then no red.. No I have not fixed the issue.. He's 39 miles from here and I will drive back there tonight.

    I'm lost

Should I uninstall the 2 monitor drivers I installed last night at his house, reinstall them when I turn it on and it asked for location of Unknown device? Or what way should I proceed..

Just to clarify, are the 2 drivers you installed for your friend's monitor? If so, there is no need to reinstall them. Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? If not, I would not know what else can be done.

Listen to tgell as far as drivers but the sp39551.exe should be the monitor drivers. You can check under Monitor in device manager to make sure your HP monitor is listed.

The one thought I had is his monitor using a different connection than yours (ie. HDMI rather than VGA or DVI)? If you connect his monitor using the same type of connection you used are the colors correct? It could be he has a bad cable or the video card has a bad connector for his preferred connection type. I don't want to confuse the issue just putting it out there as something to check before leaving his house.

I have tried installing, uninstalling, the drivers for XP on this monitor. I also checked the pins on cable (look fine) This monitor worked great with the Vista system. Once I took this back to customer with XP pro the monitor is no red.. Customer now thinks i broke his monitor. I went over and picked this up from him.. I tried factory reset on the monitor no change, I tried to increase the Red Color no change. I assume this monitor is xp pro compatible as I downloaded the drivers for it on HP.. I have no idea :(

So his monitor is the HP w1907? There are no yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager? Did you install the latest Nvidia Graphics Driver?

    http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/35050

But first I would go to Control Panel. Do you have a Nvidia Icon. If so double click it. Then go to Display and check if Color Channel has all channels listed.

Hello. sorry for my absence yesterday as I had to work a double shift. Yes. this is a HP w1907 and no there is no yellow marks in device mgr.. (see image)

I did as you said and downloaded http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/35050

    No change...

The color channel is selected to ALL as you asked.. I took some screen shoots of the monitor properties (as you see no red) Also in "custom color" the word "Red" shows "Black" basically an red is black..

I took his tower and put my monitor on it and total color so I assume we can rule out grafic/video card..
Here are some screen shoots.. 4 of 7

This is different than MemTest86, but it does work on x64 systems rather well:

    http://majorgeeks.com/RightMark_RAMTester_Utility_d4684.html

Glad you got XP up and running, and if you ever have to update XP from "scratch" again, use "install all other updates" BEFORE you install Service Packs. It really makes a difference when using an older disc.

    :major

Remember that XP is a 32 bit OS, and will usually only recognize 3.25GB of RAM at the most, when you install 4 GB.

    Good luck!!

Did you try that monitor on another PC? VGA doesn't last forever, and this monitor is three years old. Silly question, but can you use DVI with a PCI card? Or is this strictly running off the integrated 6150 graphics?

Did you hook it up VGA, or DVI with another PC?

Now that's strange, I captured the 7 images from His HPw1907 it showed little to no color.. When I posted it and view on "my" PC I see the color.. I know this is pointless

Yes, I tries it on this PC and still no color.. DVI has a different cord that does not support his or my tower..

The Troubleshooting guide says cable bad, card bad, or monitors bad.. I can rule out the card yet don't have another VGA cord to test that.. (The cord looks good shows no signs of bent prongs etc....

Well, if the customer's cord is at the customer's house, and your monitor worked with that cable, you can rule out the VGA cable.

  25. the mekanic

What you are seeing is the signal at the GPU.

Pre-processed by the monitor signal, so it will appear in color in screenshots.

There is the possibility that something in the VGA connector loosed up when the cable was removed. Do you see a change if you wiggle it at the back of the monitor?

Also, just for good measure, give this app a try:

No, I worked on the "Tower" only... I had his tower/my cord/my monitor..

I finished his XP install and update, took it to his house pluged in "His" tower to his cord and his monitor.. The monitor showed no red primary color.. As you can see from other post I downloaded all drivers and used many different setting for color change (including factory reset) Still no color..

So I don't 100% believe I can rule out cord.. maybe I can get at walmart and try. If cord is bad I say monitors is bad.. He still thinks I did it.. I told him I worked on PC not monitor.. that's neither here nor there..

Well, I can say I have had the desire to "fire" a client.

Actually have in days past. :-D

The only thing I can really say that would be a "concrete" test, is to hook it up DVI, and see if there is no red.

However, this would require a PCI card on either count. But, it would prove that it's the analog processing unit in the monitor.

It sure looks like his monitor or cord. The connection at the board is good since you are both using the same connection coming from the board. You've got all the drivers and settings correct.

If both your and his monitor have cables that detach, you could just bring your cable to his house to test. Did you say if his monitor has a set defaults button on it and whether you tried that? (I think his monitor is failing but just want to give all options)

His cord detaches from monitor, my monitors cord is UN-detachable from monitor.. Looks like the only thing left is to buy a cord and test that, and yes I did try reset-to factory on the monitor..

Yah, I'm banking on the Moniter VGA going bad.. Thanks for the link.. Walmart has for $7 and if no need, you can return it.. Will try that in the AM then return the system to client
