Kill Outlook with Task Scheduler?

I'd like to automatically backup (copy) to my own computer my wife's Outllook .pst file but a scheduled task to close it first usually fails because Outlook pops up a dialog box asking for confirmation of emptying the Deleted Items folder before closing and I can't figure out how to respond to it.

It's Vista and the task I'm using is

The backup works fine providing Outlook is not running, but it usually is.

 

If you have Outlook 2010, there is this add-on that will work http://www.msoutlook.info/question/421 Previous editions of Outlook have the .pst backup built in. There is no need to kill Outlook to back it up.

 

I can see an Archive item in the File menu but don't see how this could be scheduled and automatic over the LAN. Or is it something else?

Took a second look at this. The Outlook Personal Folders Backup tool isn't installed in Outlook 2002-2007 by default, it's a separate download from MS Office Online. It's also pretty useless as all it does is enable you to define a backup location, manually to perform a backup of your .pst file, and optionally to remind you at intervals that it's time to do it. It's only advantage over DIY is that you don't have to close Outlook to do it.

This is frustrating - such a basic need - a simple and automatic backup routine running to a user defined schedule, but apparently no way to do it.

 

See if this works for you. In outlook go to File>Options>Advanced

Under Other uncheck "Prompt for confirmation before permanently deleting items."
