When I go to my Yahoo mail, all I want to do is to just look at my mail. Now there are downloads that they are so trying to shove down my throat.....something to do with some kind of 9 thing. I really am not paying too much attention but to ask 'why'. If it works don't fix it? Everything was fine for me. Now at least ....I think so. Would someone tell me what is going on? OH, and not to forget going from Google to the 'Chrome'. Please, someone fill me in. Thanks oodles!

Who is "they"? We also have no idea what you mean by "some kind of 9 thing". If you want assistance, you do need to provide useful information.

    Search
    Yahoo!

    You're almost there...

The newest version of Yahoo! Mail works best on modern browsers. While you can still access basic email functionality like reading and sending email, to access other features like Yahoo! Messenger, photo slideshows, and the reply bar, you'll need to upgrade your browser.

Upgrading is free and it only takes a few moments:
Not ready to upgrade? Continue anyway

I usually don't do Google but lately I have been taking a much bigger gander than I used to. And there is the constant ' Google Chrome'. What would be so much better for me by going to the 'chrome' from Google?

So sorry about the lack of any info. on the '9' thing. Unfortunately I was just in such a mind tiff that I was trying to cram all kinds of things into something that no one could possibly understand. I'll really try to quit doing that. :-o
I can't at this very moment find it again. I will see if I can get it to come up again.
    Thanks for you patience.

Yahoo Mail upgrade was first announced sometime in April or May. Then I got another email about the upgrade in July.
There isn't much you can do about it.

I'm been cleaning out my Yahoo account and moving newsletters and contacts elsewhere.

Google Chrome is a browser. It is not a search engine. If you are not happy with your current browser (usually one of the three: IE, FF or Opera) then try Chrome. If you are happy with your browser, then forget about installing another browser.

They are not forcing you to download anything. Because of our society and the human species, they have to put a disclaimer stating what your options are to better utilize their service, if your current browser or computer does not meet the min. spec's that the engineers have designed the site for.

I didn't like the new Yahoo mail at first but I am now used to it and have fullly accepted the change. As plodr wrote "There isn't much you can do about it"
If you change to the new version but want to go back there are a few ways to do it but I don't know how long these workarounds will last.

Do you have Vista or Win7 and were you using Internet Explorer when you got the message about "some kind of 9 thing" ?
If that is correct then the message might refer to the Internet Explorer 9 update. Check your version of Internet Explorer.

Hey THANKS! I'm so paranoid of going along with anything online because I was one of those that learned by my twitchy button finger and then my mind would follow. Gets to be spendy and really super button finger shy.
All of you awesome people that answered my questions is what makes Major Geeks what it is. I say nothing but good things about this place whenever I can. I know I'd be lost without each one of ya.
Thanks again so much to plodr and brownizs and MadMal! :dood

There is no work around, those under the answers are fud. If you want to change to classic, you just have to click on Options in the right hand corner, and then click on "Mail Classic." Why people make stuff harder than it actually is, amazes me.

Both the bottom links on that webpage take me to Yahoo Mail Classic
Options is not in the right corner of my new Yahoo mail it is over on the left.
There is no "Mail Classic" listed in the Options drop down list, there was for a while but it was removed.
There is no "Mail Classic" listed in the mail options section.

I don't know why your new Yahoo mail is different to mine but I wish I had the "Mail Classic" option listed like you do

I used to have Yahoo classic web email from my ISP. A short while ago I upgraded to the newest version and there's no option to revert back to *classic*. Guess Yahoo and my ISP nudge (through emails) people to upgrade as maintaining old versions must not be in their best interest.

I have always had that option forever as long as I can remember. Something like the past 3 years or so.

brownizs, be prepared, the new Yahoo email is coming. It will be forced on you and you will not be able to go back to Classic. People have been posting once it happened to them.
One of my online friends has been telling me about the changes to his MyYahoo start page. I don't use Yahoo as a start page so this would not impact me.

I'm still using the old version. (I've stuck with Classic for 13 years - I guess Yahoo doesn't care that some of us prefer an uncluttered mail page). Unfortunately, the latest and greatest will not work on my 7" netbook that I travel with. If I can't retrieve email when I'm traveling for a week or two because Yahoo deems I need something "better", then Yahoo email will be useless to me. That's why I've been removing contacts and giving them a different email address for contacting me.

I contacted Yahoo support in August when I had an email error showing for several days. Thei solution: get a newer version of IE. Hellooo, not all of us run Windows. I was using my 7" netbook running linux. I know I'm not the only person with a small screen netbook. (The new Yahoo will not run on anything 800 x 600 and lower).

plodr, the new Yahoo mail has been coming around for over 3 years and has never gone any farther than they have it now. I really never go into it anyways, since I use Outlook to pull my att.net email, and use my iphone also to pull it. Rarely if ever have I been in the web mail. Also, ditch IE and start using Firefox, so that you do not have to deal with the issues.

The key is to not take the request to upgrade your email to the newer if you do not want to. Otherwise, you live with it, which is a part of change. Everything has to evolve in way or another.

I also have a 9" Netbook so I know the feeling, we are the forgotten ones.

For anyone who hasn't noticed this yet.
After many complaints that the ad on the right is a bad idea for small screen users they made a small change and you can now remove the ad but only while you read your email. Once you change the page the ad comes back. The article trumpets this as a magnanimous gesture on their part.
You Asked for It… A Collapse Ad Button in the All-New Yahoo! Mail
    http://www.ymailblog.com/blog/2010/...collapse-ad-button-in-the-all-new-yahoo-mail/

I didn't want to switch to the New Yahoo Mail, I just woke up one morning and the Yahoo Inbox bookmark I normally used didn't work, it just took me to Yahoo. I tried various ways to get back to the Classic but was always 'redirected' to the New. That's when I searched the web and found workarounds.
I wonder if the difference in your Yahoo Mail and mine is the country we are registered in, my Yahoo is Australia and my email address ends in @yahoo.com.au
Also, I use the free version, it's possible that the paid version has more leeway
See the screenshots below for the differnces between my Classic and New. You will see in Classic I am offered the option to try New but in New I am not offered the option to return to Classic.
As I said, I don't find the New so bad and as long as it delivers the mail I will be happy enough.

I did a search for the new Yahoo mail, and had no problems with it on my Acer Aspire A0532h netbook, running FF 8.x. It actually fit into the browser window. I have not had a chance to try the rooted nook yet. I am still finding new things with the nook running n2a's mod on it, so give me a couple of days.

The only time that I really do have to go into the yahoo mail, is to send large files. Now of course, those just using Yahoo mail, can just download Zimbra's Desktop, which is one of the better programs out there for checking email & updating the yahoo calendar. I for one am still disappointed that yahoo did away with the sync app for Windows & Outlook.

There is no choice. Once the server that your account is housed on is transferred to the new system you have to go along or just not use Yahoo Mail.

Yahoo has a paid email client as well. With it you can sync to Outlook and probably other email clients. Not allowing the free version to sync is trying to get you to use the paid version. You'll keep your old email address, and I'm sure there's other perks as well, but I'm not going to pay it myself.

I figured, why pay for something, that i can now use iCloud for on my iPhone. After they changed the whole sync thing when Office 2k10, or 2k7 came out, it was time to look for other methods. The two or so weeks before iOS5 come out live, I was trying everything I could to get my iPhone to sync for calendar and contacts, without having to actually hook it up to the computer.

I detest feeling like sheep. I still remember those old commercials for Yahoo, when the cowboy used to say...'YaaaaaaHOOOOooooooooOOOOO!!!!!
    Thanks for all the input

    I don't feel so baaaaaaad.

    Just a small funny.
    Seriously....Thanks all
