Hello I am hoping someone on here can help me.

About two months ago I updated fire fox and since then I have had a lot of instances where fire fox will hang for a minute and nothing I click on works, then after a minute or two it starts working again. I have read many a thread where people share the same frustration but nothing solves my problem. I also noted that when I go into deviantart.com it chucks a fit when trying to load all the thumb pics.

Then about a week ago I started playing a game through facebook and without fail every several minutes (or less) of play it comes up with an error and tells me that I need to refresh my browser and then precedes to load the game once again.

Now I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash so I am running the current version and Fire fox is version 7.0.1.

Here is a list of my add ons:

    adblock plus

    colorful tabs

    flashblock

    java quick starter

    microsoft .NET framework assistant

    netusage item

    noscript

    quickdrag

    tab mix plus

    webmail blocker

All add ons are up to date. I sincerely hope that someone can help me.

    Hi Tami19.
Don't know why I'm still up?

You should give us a few more specs:
    operating system and version

A number of members have been here with Flash Player problems, including me.

You might start with this thread since this member is also using Firefox 7.0.1 and reports that the problem was fixed.

The other browser problems may be more difficult to fix.
Some people have complained about deteriorating performance in later versions of Firefox.
Don't know what things you have already tried, but sometimes an uninstall and fresh install helps.
Firefox Help: Backing Up Your Profile

Probably, you should only restore some vital things like bookmarks and Not all of the settings which you should reset
    with the fresh install.
Assuming you are using Windows, you might also consider Pale Moon which is Firefox Optimized for Windows.

    Firefox 3.6 is still Supported.
Latest release, 3.6.23, September 27, 2011, is available HERE

The "microsoft .NET framework assistant" has been known to cause trouble in the past. And at one time was considered undesirable by Mozilla. Don't know if that is still the case or not.

Might want to take a look at Mozilla's Block List for Firefox to see if you have any thing in the list installed.

Here are some user reviews for "microsoft .NET framework assistant" too. They aren't very complimentary.

Is this one of the threads you read? The solution given by mha007 fixed my FireFox page hanging problem, when I changed the value to 48. Apparently it doesn't work for everyone though. Good luck

Hey guys thanks for all the responses!!

Sorry for the lack of information. I am running windows XP SP3. Yes flash is up to date and so is fire fox. I have uninstalled flash player and tried re-installing it but still no results.

In response to the Microsoft .NET add on I have disabled it. But when I go into Add/Remove Programs I have the following installed:

    Microsoft .NET framework 1.1

Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 service pack 2

Microsoft .NET framework 3.0 service pack 2

    Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 SP1

I have no idea what any of them mean or if I even need them??

Also I have the following plug in's installed:

    adobe Acrobat 10.1.1.33

    dnl reader 8.0.0.10

    java deployment toolkit 6.0.270.7

    jsvs platform se u27 6.0.270.7

    microsoft office 2003 11.0.8161.0

    microsoft drm 9.0.0.4503

    quicktime plugin 7.7 7.7.0.0

    realplayer version plugin 6.0.12.775

    realplayer g2 liveconnect-enabled plugin

    realplayer html5videoshim plug in

    shockwave flash

    shockwave for director

    windows geniuine afvantage

windows media player plug in dynamic link library

    windows presentation foundation

    realjukebox NS plug in

    I hope this helps.

P.S I just want to add in too that my other PC is having the same problem as well. (windows xp sp3)

I also just updated my shock wave and Java plugins. I disabled the following:

    windows presentation foundation
    realjukebox NS plug in
    dnl reader 8.0.0.10
    windows genuine advantage

I even got rid of the theme that I had installed on Fire fox but still it has not fixed the problem so reinstalled it.

    This is really puzzling me.

What happens if going in Safemode (firefox) Help>Restart with addons disabled? Do not tick any boxes when the screen comes up prior to going into safemode. If much better then the problem could be an extension that causes it and then find the culprit by enabling one extension at a time until the one that causes the problems is found. Uninstall that extension and find a new compatible one.

Oh boy, you've got a LOT of plugins. You didn't give us the version numbers of those plugins. Did you know that firefox scans for all plugins that you have installed. Are some of them disabled and/or greyed out in Addons Manager? Time to weed out some of them I think.

You may want to start with a new profile: See how: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows

I am in Safe mode as I type this reply and so far it seems to be behaving but when I try to play my game through face book the same problem occurs. Tells there is an error - try refreshing your browser and then proceeds to load the game again.

I did some major reading and cleaned out my extensions. (A HUGE thank you for all that interesting and helpful information).

Sorry about that. Here is the re-vised list of my plug-ins:

    adobe acrobat 10.1.1.33

    java deployment toolkit 6.0.290.11

    java platform se 6 u29 6.0.290.11

    quicktime plug in 7.7 7.7.0.0

    realplayer g2 liveconnect-enabled plug-in (32 bit) 6.0.12.775

    realplayer html5videoshim plug-in (32 bit) 1.0.0.0

    shockwave flash 11.0.1.152

    shockwave for director 11.6.1.629

windows media player plug-in dynamic link library 3.0.2.629

I have another seven plug-ins that I have disabled but are still in the list in grey. How do I remove them??

Is there anything in this list that I should remove?? I really have no idea what I need and what I do not.

    Thanks for all your help.

I've got a hunch that when you updated Firefox 2 months ago something got corrupted in your profile or an extension causing the freezing.

    1. First, start again in Firefox Safemode to find out which extension is causing the hangs. Disable all of them as previously explained. Then enable one extension at a time, surf a bit in between enabling each one. In that way you can find out the one that's causing the freezing. Remove the culprit.

IMHO it's probably better for you to create a fresh new profile.

    2. Download and install the standalone Mozbackup tool for Firefox. It's NOT an extension. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

    3. Check out what you need to backup first. Read what information is stored in my profile: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles
Since I don't know what file in there is corrupted, I would backup only the bookmarks in Mozbackup, therefore only leave the bookmarks ticked and untick the rest. I suggest that you do that backup to My Documents so you need to make a new folder first in My Documents. (In doing as outlined you will have to install all addons and plugins anew in the new profile.) If you're SURE that all your extensions work fine after having done the safemode check as per the above, you can safely add in Mozbackup your extensions.

    4. Create a new Profile. (add a new profile) Instructions on how to do it: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows

    5. Restore your bookmarks (and possibly your extensions with Mozbackup) if all working OK as per 1

DON'T delete your old profile as is until you're absolutely sure that your new profile works correctly.

Of course, there's always the Palemoon browser which is a virtually identical to Firefox and you can use most extensions of Firefox in it. http://www.palemoon.org/download-ng.shtml If downloading it, pick the first SITY Hosting. They've got a forum as well since end August. http://forum.palemoon.org/ MozBackup won't work in Palemoon but FEBE (Firefox extension) does.

I use both Firefox and Palemoon.

PS: I've got no clue in how to advise about the Facebook thingy and Flash not working in there. Have you tried if Flash works in Youtube? Did you try if Flash works in Internet Explorer browser by going to Facebook and Youtube?

Thanks Oma. I did what you suggested. One thing that you forgot to mention was how to get my book marks into the new profile??

Under the new profile I seemed to have none of the problems that I have in my old one. I played my game and it didn't refresh once. So looks like its a corrupted file as suggested.

So my next question is this: How do I get my bookmarks into my new profile and by downloading my old extensions again will it do what it did before?

    Thanks for all you help.

Good work Tami19! Did you download and install Mozbackup to make a bookmarks backup prior to making a new profile as suggested? If so, open Mozbackup, click on the new (additional) profile name you created and click on restore. That should do it.

If the above doesn't work, I'll give you another way to copy your bookmarks to your new profile in a subsequent post.

If restoring the bookmarks in Mozbackup worked:

Install all your extensions one at a time, restart Firefox, surf a bit, and if OK, install the next one and so on. That way you would know if (which) one is giving you problems. Uninstall the one(s) that don't work and look for a new comparable extension for these. Realize that plugins are NOT extensions.

Let us know of your results and outcome. :)

I can't thank all of you enough!!! I have re-installed my extensions and (touch wood) so far...... no dramas!!! I have been playing my games after each install and it hasn't rebooted etc.

The freezing seems to have fixed itself also. I hope this continues.

I really cannot express my gratitude for all your help. A simple thank you just doesn't seem enough.

Which profile are you using, the new one or the old one?
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
Do the above with Firefox closed. The profile you're using will be highlighted. If using the wrong profile, click on the other one and exit. Then when starting up Firefox you should be using the new profile. Tell us how many profiles do you see?

If all of the responses and instructions have been to difficult for you to follow, I suggest that you download and install the Palemoon browser http://www.palemoon.org/download-ng.shtml since it's just an optimized version of Firefox and you will have a spanking brand new Palemoon profile. Pick the SITY link to download Palemoon if interested to try it. Bookmarks can be easily transferred by copying places.sqlite from Firefox profile and pasting into Palemoon's profile. The vast majority of Firefox extensions can be installed in Palemoon. Try it out and see if you have any problems then.

Thanks guys. I have followed the instructions to the T. Today it seems to be having no problems. I know how to fix it now should it come back to haunt me. I really couldn't have done it without you.
