It has just been announced that the Gold Coast, Queensland, has won the right to host the 2018 Commonwealth games.
Not even on Google yet. :-D

This announcement will also help my city with extra tourist activity in 2018, too. :cool

The 2018 Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event

Saw the news on the Net.:cool

Wonder what those Tourists coming over for the first time will think of our Meter Maids? Bet there'll be lotsa this --> :drool (for MG members, here's a link so you know what I'm referring to: http://www.metermaids.com.au/ )

Bazza, what time of year is it happening?

Hopefully not during the "Schoolies"!LOL (again for our MG members, the Gold Coast in Queensland becomes a hub for celebrations by adolescents from different States who go there to party after having completed their schooling. Enough said).

Imagine first time visitors encountering Meter Maids and Schoolies!:-D

LS, no news on when it is to happen, in 2018.
I'm pretty sure it won't be during schoolies. :-D
If the Aussies want an unfair advantage it would probably be in Summer due to heat and humidity, but it will probably be in August=>November so visitors won't melt. ;)

Baz, as you know Spring (Sep-Nov) is usually spent in set up and preparation for the Gold Coast 600 Racing Carnival. That itself is done a few weeks prior to the Speedway start, which means areas are blocked off to all the streets leading to and for the Speedway races.

The races takes up a few days followed up with partying events and music festivals. So I somehow doubt it will be a Spring event due to these type of conflicts.

I kinda reckon it will probably be Autumn (Mar-May) - still hot, but not as bad as the Summer.

Either way, it will be great weather and still lotsa stuff going on at the Coast for the Tourists. Regardless what Season, they’ll still get the Meter Maids!;)

Hey Augie!:wave Yeah, Gold Coast is a fun place and pretty central to lots of attractions, natural Reserves, beaches and theme parks up and down the Coast. It’s a nice spot given its location, and can satisfy needs for all types of tastes because there’s lots to see and do in surrounding areas that are within walking or easy driving distance. (I enjoy hitting the tracks with friends in a range rover and going bush during the day:cool then party on somewhere at night:p)

The Meter Maids are a clever idea and Tourists love them…not only for their good looks and being a “walking information Centre”, but especially when parking meters’ time have expired and a Tourist finds a Meter Maid has popped a courtesy coin in their meter to avoid a fine. ;)

    Cheers

    LS
