Yeah , I'm guessing most of you think I'm going to drone on about how my utility company is screwing me for money.
Well as a change of pace, they are currently not (well actually they are but thats and entire different story).

I just paid my Electricity/Water bill and my gas bill.
All fine as I click "Confirm" after checking and double checking I have put the decimal point in the right place.
Sit back and feel comfortable in the knowledge I just paid my bills... still comfy ... and then the penny drops as I glance over the screen and realise instead of sending them $236 , I sent them $336...... ARGHHHHH!!! :mad

I know they will offset it to next months bill and it's xmas etc etc etc...... point being is they will have $100 of MY money for a month...grrrrr. :major

Yikes. That always sucks when that happens. One of the problems with online paying.

I seem to have issues with Amex. I did the exact same thing as you one time and then the next time it was worse...I paid my husband's business Amex bill with OUR personal money.:cry Luckily, they were good about transferring the money over to the right account.

Sounds like you are at least looking at the positive things you can, Ned. Hopefully, it won't effect you for Christmas.

Oh Ned! :( Just to let you know, if you pay your bills via your online bank account a call to the bank b4 a certain time (usually same day) can/could probably solve it.

I know my bank permits that although never needed the above service yet.

Bahh, no big deal, at least to me. I usually overpay my cable/ISP and others by a few months because they annoy me if I forget, when the bucks are there then they get overly paid and I have peace of mind for a while. Yes, I know I'm a jerk but at least this way my power doesn't get cut off or anything else either. Did I mention I despise opening bills or ignoring them for months? Works for me.;)

Many utility companies now let you set up autopayment using Visa or MasterCard. On the due date, your credit card is charged for the amount owed with no service fee added.

I do this for all the bills I can. It makes keeping track of things easier, I pay the card in full every month (no interest charges) and I earn 1% cash back. ;)

Meh, I'm kind of with Auggie here, even though reading I was going to reply with something sarcastic about how the other half live :-D
Then he mentioned himself being a jerk and the need faded lol

But yeah, I've been hard up for cash for the last 6 years, with immigration and the rotten luck of whn I get a job, the missus loses hers or gets less hours, or vise versa.
But I've been working 50 hours per week steady for 18 months now, actually had this week off, first time off in over a year, and now the lady is working full time as well, plus a small cash injection in back taxes have put us in the position to have a small buffer.

So like I said, I'm out of pocket $100 this month, but realistically I don't need it for anything specific (I hope lol) and the plus side is next month will be $100 less just in time for xmas, so I'm thinking of it like a small , short term savings plan :-D

Just annoyed they have my money :mad .... 'cos it's mine! :strong

Here we have a system called "domicileering" which in effect give the utility companies access to your bank account to withdraw the amount that is due.
I use this for my gas/electric/water and ISP so that i do not get a sudden loss of service.
It is not perfect because at times they (mainly my ISP) overcharge me and the recovery of that money takes forever.

Ouch in then having your $$ to gain them interest on the money instead of you, I know how easy it is to overpay at times, which is why I now Direct Debit everything, saves me forgetting and also saves overpaying them if I forget who gets what,

Every now and then, I get a bill which says it's got so-and-so, much credit on it instead of a debt. Makes me wonder if I just got absent minded and payed twice, (quite possible, lol!), or that I got ripped off with the previous bill(s) and they've finally figured it out.:confused

That happens. We had a huge electric bill one month, way more that we ever had and I know we did not do anything different as far a usage was concerned. I checked the meter against their numbers and the damn meter reader had mis-read it. We got a pass on the next bill. ;)

Erm no! I'm on a fixed income. :p

I never let anyone access my bank account as I can't juggle the bills then, online payments only. Next one up is my phone bill.

Interest on a checking account, what interest? The companies charge a lot more than the bank pays out which is next to nothing these days.

You KNOW I was serious....seriously kidding. Fixed describes my income since I have been out of work since Memorial Day.
