Arsenic levels in some apple juice and grape juice samples tested higher than what's considered safe, according to a study by Consumer Reports.

The study found that 10 percent of the sampled juices contained arsenic levels higher than the 10 parts per billion regulation for drinking water set by the Food and Drug Administration,

Should there really be a "SAFE" level??

Sure, it's the dose that makes the poison.;) Where are they getting these apples from to make their juice?. Locally from Vermont or Quebec or elsewhere? This 'Dr. Oz' gives me the creeps.

How does arsenic even get in there?

It's in the soil just like anthrax is or gold in the seas, it's leached from rocks so there's always a background level just like cosmic radiation. I don't know the level that's in those juices.

Arsenic is used in industry so if there's runoff and there's an orchard nearby etc. Of course I dunno.:confused

Well it couldn't take much for a baby. Poison = childhood cancer along with all the other crap they want you to inject into your child. It's scary, I believe they have better regulations for animals. :(

In the interest of "Quality Journalism based on Sensationalism" we see stories like this hyped out of control. "10 parts per billion":confused

Apples naturally have cyanide in them

Diet Root Beer kills lab rats who drink 240 Gals per day too..... rolleyes

Hi Darlene, good to see you! :wave

While arsenic content in those juices may not harm an adult, it definitely would not beneficial to children who often drink too much juice. Combine that with elevated arsenic levels in drinking water in some States etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenic

A neighbour, who was a snowbird, brought back whole oranges plucked from a tree(illegal to import) and the taste difference was like night and day!:eek Lots of apples grown up here and I used to love the unpasteurized apple juice but then I guess the watchdogs got their fangs into it and now one can only buy the pasteurized which has a completely different taste.:puke

The companies have to store all the product as it's obviously seasonal so they have no choice but to 'enhance' the flavour at bottling time but they never get it right. I like my food to be as close to the farm as possible. I don't really care much about the artificial crap they put in their product healthwise as it's too late for me but I am concerned about the possible effects this has on children. Sure, each chemical has been tested by the FDA but mix them all together, who knows what witches brew that makes?

I'm a nut for flavour. I make my own bread from scratch, meaning I also grind the flour from seed from an organic farm, grind my own beef so's I can cook my burgers medium rare without worry etc. etc.:yum I realize many folks don't have that luxury of time like I do.

I could go on but I'm boring myself, so ya'll are probably asleep by now.:-D

Since most people want to have seasonal products all year around that must be the reason why all that crap is being added. Fresh in season is the best nutrition wise and preferably organic although one cannot even be sure that it is 100% organic.

OT: my daughter loved a kinda cured sausage from Holland and when I went there in 1982 I took one back, vacuum packed. I was caught at the airport. :-o Shouldn't have done that but wanted to surprise her so much. Should have done the same as Lucy Arnaz who in I love Lucy ate the goddamn cheese right there and then when she was caught. :-D

I drink nearly a gallon of orange juice a week, either Tropicana or Florida's Natural,
and have always thought that it was quite healthful, but now I have doubts.

I'll be looking for some natural "organic" OJ.
If it's pasteurized, it may contain some of the same stuff, and if Not, what would that mean in terms of safety.

I don't think that eating "raw" oranges has ever been considered a health risk.

Tangerines, nectarines, peaches, mango, grapes, cantaloupe -- ditto.
