    Hello, I have been recommended to this forum by a user for it's quick and helpful response :D

    I am looking into upgrading my CPU at Christmas, and i have come across a bit of an annoying find. I found that for £10 more than the top AM3 processor i can get a second best AM3+ processor, but am worried my AM3 board won't support it.
    Here are the models:

    Motherboard = Asus M4A77D
    AM3+ CPU = AMD FX Series 8120 Black Edition 8 Core Bulldozer Processor (Core Name = Orochi)

    I have heard that the pins match up, and i know my motherboard supports HT Link 3.0 @ 5200MT/s, which is what the AM3+ CPU uses, so surely it should be compatible??

    Please help, any suggestions are welcome :D Thank you for your time!

    Thank-you for your reply, I have found this list before, and I know that its not on the list and I know that Asus are offering BIOS updates offering support for some motherboards
    , however I want to know if it is (un-officially) supported, it's likely that the whole am3+ thing is a marketing scheme.

    The last BIOS update for your mobo is dated July 2010 so that's a nogo, plus there would be a chipset update needed too. As to marketing ploys you should see what Intel is doing with the various sockets they've released, at least 4 sockets in the last 3 or 4 years! AMD has been much better about upgradeable mobo's for a long time.

    I would have bought a Bulldozer if the hype that surrounded it were true as they're marketing it as a 2600K killer though the Intel chip blows it out of the water. Quite disappointing really. However, for regular folks who don't fold it's a great chip IMO.

    thankyou for your reply.
    Again i think there is a mis-understanding. I wish to know if the new Bulldozer AM3+ CPU's are (UN-OFFICIALLY) supported by my motherboard, i know about the BIOS updates, i know about the lists, i know they all point to no. What i wish to find out is if the CPU WILL WORK, NOT whether AMD/ASUS says it will work or not.
