ok,i really need some help as it's driving me nuts!
i have an advent 9212 notebook and i had a trojan horse which messed it up to the point i had to reinstall an operating system.it came with vista but i never had any back up discs as i bought it pre owned so i had to use a cracked copy of windows xp just to get me on the net to sort it out.
everything works fine but i am not getting any sound from it,there is no speaker picture on the screen and its saying no audio device can be found.i tied installing realtek audio drivers but they are not working and all the links i click are just downloads for driver scanners which then tell me i need to pay 24.99 to get the drivers.i am not very good when it comes to laptop problems so if someone could help me through layman's terms that would be great,i need this laptop for music and each day i cant use it its costing me money..please please please can someone help :(

You need to be more specific, MUCH more specific. That said, I assume you have no network drivers yet we are talking. Download them, put them on a USB stick, CDROM, something and install from there.

this is my problem,i have very limited knowledge of anything like this, hence joining the site.my downloads are working now (had to free up disc space using the disc cleaner)

the audio drivers are now installed but getting a message when i try to use windows media player that says it cannot play because there is a problem with my sound device, there may not be a sound device installed (but isnt that what the audio drivers were for from the site you showed me).
in device manager under sounds and settings i have the following things, all working properly.,not sure if a sound device is in it or not:
    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    Video Codecs

now,im pretty sure realtek should be in there?!.
i downloaded the rar file, extracted files and pressed set up and it ran through it all..am i right in thinking i have to put them on to disc and install that way?.

Realtek High Definition Audio drivers should have worked for you. Legacy means the Windows drivers. I would remove all the Legacy audio (and anything else audio related) where you see it and reboot and let it redetect.

Also, CCleaner will do a better job of freeing up drive space:

You might need other drivers for it to function correctly, especially motherboard (chipset) drivers from the page we mentioned.

Were not talking leftover drivers, we are talking about potential system defaults changed from an infection. Knowing what that program is or looking at it would have told you that :)
