When using Ccleaner Wipe Free Space,,,System Restore Points are deleted. Windows has a habit of deleting restore points to make disk space when it seems that there isn't any more. Filling the free space with 0 files gives Windows that impression. Hope I helped someone,,I found out the hard way!!!!

Most PC's have system restore set to 10%-12% of HDD space, I usually go with one to three percent, if it is used at all. Usually give the Recycle Bin less room too. Always install CCleaner on any PC that goes on line, that I am using, but have only used the wipe free space option on a few occasions .

When using CCleaner Drive Wiper, in version 3.12.1572, if you select free space only, then only currently unused space and space occupied by Deleted Files is wiped.

It Does Not wipe Restore Points, unless there is a serious error in the latest version.
System Restore is a separate Tool in CCleaner.

Windows System Restore will use as much disk space as specified in the Settings which can easily be changed.
Oldest restore points are deleted, when necessary to stay within the maximun space setting, to make room for New restore points.

I just checked my restore points and found that there are only Two, which is quite odd, since there should be At Least Ten. :confused
If CCleaner deleted those as part of the regular cleanup process, that is a serious error. rolleyes

    I'll be watching that.

Well then the latest version HAS a serious falw. I downloaded just a few days ago to run a registry clean rather than restoring back to more thna a week ago. I had found the exact restore point but wanted to try a clean first. When the cleamup didn't fix my problem I tried system restore, only to find it had deleted all but the latest restore point. I did not run the tool option to do that, just the registry cleaner.

My System Restore is set at 10%. I have never had problems with the Registry cleaner in CCleaner, but, since posting my original post,,I have wiped free space 4 times and each time my restore points are gone!!!! Whether it's Windows or CCleaner doing it,,,,the Restore Points are still being deleted!!!!

What possible benefit could there be to wiping your hard drive's free space??

Although forensic software may (still) glean some info.

    Cheers..

That's a lot of extra work for your hard drive and won't provide any additional free space.

I think it is primarily a security measure. It overwrites remnants of deleted files.

Wipe MFT free space may be of some benefit, but IMHO should only be done occasionally.

If you leave secure file deletion ON, it will wipe files during the regular Cleaner operation.

In my line of work(Bail Agent) security is important. I use another program strictly for work , but for work at home,,CCleaner is enough. Needed to make everyone aware,,Thanks!!!!
