My windows xp machine (sp3) has started a nasty habit of going to sleep no matter what I set the options to. I have edited registry files, Powercfg (in cmd) and even swapped out the motherboard and cleaned inside the case...

So what is my next step? I can't format the thing yet, but that will be my last step.

I don't currently use a Windows XP computer; but when I did I used a tiny freeware program called NoSleep! 2.18 in order to stave off "sleep mode" temporarily (or for good by *copying a shortcut of NoSleep! 2.18 to the "startup folder").

This utility also allows users to temporarily (or *permanently) deactivate the screen saver as well as any sleep/standby feature directly from the system tray. The program has no "Help File" but it is fairly self-explanatory and very easy to use.

As far as I know it is not available here at MajorGeeks but it is available for download here at this website.

    Good Luck!

I will give the NoSLeep a try, the computer is an MPC Clientpro 385(out of business now).

I know it isn't hardware related as I have changed out parts like the mobo and PSU. I even ran a diag check and everything came up fine.

The odd thing is it is one computer out of 30 that is doing this and they all are locked with deep freeze. So if anything happens to them you can just restart and load an image.

    I hope NoSleep 2.18 works for you… ;)

Side Note: I was sorry to hear about the MPC Corporation going out of business around 2008-09. The original company name was Micron Electronics Inc and they initially sold terrific high-end and "barebones" consumer and business computers (for rock bottom prices). The original company offered great support for their computers but after they acquired Gateway, Inc.'s Professional Services Unit business line they went out of business about a year later. Anyweay, since you own a MPC ClientPro; below are a couple of websites that might interest you…

MPC & Gateway Pro Support and Download Site (This is the fairly new "official" support site for MPC and Gateway Pro computer systems. It is privately owned, offering free downloads, restore disks, driver disk sets, manuals and tech info.)

Here is their support webpage for: MPC ClientPro Desktops

    Good Luck!

Can't tell from your notes if you have already done this.

Go to number 204 and click Restore Power Schemes/Configurations on the right to download the .REG file.

Just another suggestion in case you haven't resolved this yet. In the power options of the control panel check the hibernate tab and remove the check if it is checked.

There was no check next to hibernate. I tried 208 to revert power configs back to normal. Also, NoSleep did not work.

Thank you for the information on MPC as well, very interesting and I always thought they were a good company.

I am formatting the machine now... I can't understand why nothing stopped this beast from sleeping. I had to put it down the last way I knew how. Hopefully this works or else it will be on ebay soon, listed as a Possessed PC.
