I just got an Asus MOBO from a friend at work, and I had to somewhat mod my case to fit it in there. I got everything to fit, hard drive, power supply, etc. My problem is the power button on my front panel, well there is no correct layout that I can find on the MOBO. There is power to the MOBO and the light comes on, but I cannot start up the whole system.

Any ideas on how to fix this? :confused

Okay, I have looked up a few different ways to do this, would it be safe if I took the pin connector at the end off and connect the each wire to where it is supposed to go?

We need a little more info:) Post the make and model of the motherboard and as many specs as you can find, ram, vid card, psu ect.

Go to the support page of your motherboard model and find the downloadable manual,in there it will have a colour coded image of the front connectors, add this link with your next post if you can or post the motherboard model if your struggling to find it.

If I understand you correctly you have a single front connector plug with all the connections grouped together,Dells ect often have these for ease of assembly and they are in the incorrect position for your motherboard? If you can take a photo of the connector or find an image in google images this will help very much also but isn't necessary.

If this is the case you can split the wires and connect them to their correct layout if you follow the correct colour scheme for your motherboard, there can be as many as 20 or so connectors which I would bother connecting until you have the machine running as none of them are needed other than the power button and this is the only one you should concentrate on.

The power switch doesn't have a polarity either it will work anyway as long as you connect the switch to the correctly identified connector.

If your experienced you don't even need to do this to test motherboard just short the two power button pins on the motherboard for a split second with a flat head screwdriver and it should fire into life, each option has pro's and cons if you decide to cut your front panel connector apart you could damage it or make it a pain to reinstall your old motherboard,in shorting the pins you may well short the wrong ones and damage something if your not carefull although the chances in doing so are slim.

Could you specify the motherboard's model number for reference?

I made the mistake of cutting the connector off the end of the cords, but I had the color scheme for my 9 pin connector and then also the color scheme for the 28 pin layout on the motherboard. I got it to fire up and start, I will post more information on it as I go along and I will also get as many specs and links as I can. :) Thank you.
