;) Looking for some unbiased majorgeek insight. Seeking advice on a good replacement wireless N router. I have used a Belkin pre-N model F5D8230 for years but it went bad today (won't power up) and I am now connected directly into the DSL modem, with my wireless devices out in the cold.

Maybe they have become commodities in the years since I bought one, any major manufacturer will do. Or maybe not.

    Thanks.

Always have used Linksys or Cisco routers. Same company. I have also used Belkin, Netgear etc and while they do the job I have always been happy with Linksys. I have thrown out routers after using them for many years just to upgrade, not because they died. Another option might be to call your internet provider, most provide wireless routers on a standard install nowadays.

If you're considering getting a WiFi router from your Internet provider, ask how much (if any) rental fee per month is charged.

Although some ISPs will provide one for free, others (such as Comcast) charge up to $15 per month to rent a combo modem/WiFi router.

For the price Comcast charges to rent, I could afford to buy a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem and dual-band WiFi "N" router every year. Given I typically get 3-4 years out of each, buying my own saves me big bucks.

I like all the functions of the Buffalo Routers with DD-WRT preinstalled.
IDK if they make the Linksys makes an N based 'linux' router, like the wrt54g-l for running WRT.

FWIW, Linksys here too, for $50 and I've been very happy with it for the last few years. I even managed to break one of the two antennas and yes, I used duct tape to 'repair' it as it's only a plastic covering over a braided copper wire.

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning toward the Linksys E3200. I like the USB flash drive port for a shared network drive. But I will check out the Buffalo first.
