I feel like I need to do some major upgrades to my system before I can give that game the graphical respect it deserves. Because really, if I'm playing Skyrim with medium-low graphic settings, it's just an expansion pack to Oblivion.

What are your specs, my buddy is running it set at "High" on a Dual Core AMD Phenom systm and tells me he's getting decent FPS.

As for what I'm playing.... with the release of Syrim I am now playing Colums :-D
    J/k :-D
Skyrim is awesome, minor bugs here and there, the game looks fantastic although it's clear they were going for the distance pretty. What I mean is rom a distance everything looks incredible, lighting that wows you and waters effects like I've never seen before.
Close up it still has the clean cut straight lines and brick/stone floors and walls still look "Painted" but by the same token they have done a really nice job of forest type terrain with certain flowers and shrubbery (Knights of Ni :-D ) showing full 3D detail.
From what I can tell, anything plant or animal or item that you either encounter or can pick up and been fully rendered while in natural habitat.

Many have mentioned about the Dragon encounters getting tedious, I'm a good 14 hours in and have only encountered 2 outside of mission encounters and have really enjoyed the intense feeling you get as they circle way above you like a Vulture making the ground shake with it's roar.

The level system takes a little bit of working out but once the penny drops it's very easy to navigate.
The weapon/spell quick menu is a nice idea, instead of using the number keys and only having 8 slots you now have a quick menu with unlimited slots, while this is not as easy to quick change as the hot key idea , you can have many more weapons/spells/items listed, the fallback being you can quickly overfill it and make it messy.... but thats your doing :p

The combat feels like it borrowed the engine from Fallout 3, also uses what looks like the fallout kill-cam idea when you get a critical strike and some of these can be pretty brutal :strong

The map is full 3D and looks awesome, could have ben laid out a little more user friendly but it's not exactly annoying or anything.

Dual weilding weapons and spells is a really nice idea, especially when you can have something like an Orchish Sword in 1 hand and a magic shield (Ward) spell in the other. I like this because you can take Mages down quickly with melee weapons while protecting yourself from their spells.

Some awesome creatures in this one too, just roaming the landscape you will just come across everything from wild dogs to spiders to Giants and Mammoths (which look as awe inspiring as the Jurrasic park moment with the Brachia).

Difficulty is well balance except the dragons, they are pretty easy to take down, but everything else is nicely done, spiders die with 1 swing of my monster sized sword but Giants take some serious damage to put them down and I've yet to drop a Mammoth, running away seems a better option.

Travelling is same as always, fast travel/foot or horse. The horse often seems more hassle than it's worth, they control more like a car using a large circle to turn round which can sometimes be a death move if on a narrow walkway over a large drop. And as myself and my boy noticed, it would seem like the Slogan for Skyrim should be "Where's my horse?" :-D You can never find the bloody thing because it will either attack or run away from enemies. But you can always find it at the stables.

AI companions, same as always, very helpful sometimes but often in the way.
I have only ever used companions for carrying things but this time they are raring for a fight and will often run past you to get to the fight.
Sometimes they hinder you but I have to admit she has saved my arse on more than 1 occasion. Also it seems the enemy targetting system is set to simply attack whoever last connected with the enemy. You can use this to your advantage by letting your Comp. go in first and then flank the enemy (this is why Dragons are easy to drop) but other times like in small halways they can get in the way and prevent you from fighting. But all in all the AI comps. are good.

I could keep talking for a while but I think I covered most of the important aspects of the game.

It's simple... if you are an RPG/Adventure fan such as Fallout or Oblivion then you will love this game!
If you are curious about this type of game, chances are you will love this game.
If you don't like this type of game then you might like it lol

One of the best games I've played in a long time and I've played some pretty damn good games the last couple of years.

    Buy it, buy it now!

    My system is:

    Athlon 64 X2 6400+
    3GB DDR2
    Nvidia 512mb 8800GT

Come black friday, I'm going to do a system overhaul with a new mobo, ram, and cpu. I'll get a new video card if I can remain in budget, but the 8800GT is pretty solid, I would have to pay over 150 for a new card if I wanted something that could outperform it.

I have a high end gaming rig and Alice 2 bugs have pissed me off so bad I am not gaming at all. I love the graphics and game play in Alice 2. But the frustration of no saves, control bugs and lack of support has me doing yard work for fun. Usually in a few months games get their worst problems fixed but Alice 2 seems orphaned.

Perhaps Star Wars Old Republic will bring me back.

I'm getting more used to it now a few days in. But there is one quest (Kill the vampire leader - cannot remember where) but I am RIGHT on the place where the marker is, and it's as if where I need to get is deep in rock. I'm head butting wall tryna get in LOL Looking for a magic entryway or something. I checked upper levels, lower levels, tried everything it seems, I shall return to it another time.

Just finished... well spent 15+hrs, on Dead Island. Pretty good but there aren't any save points... so when my little gamer logged onto her acount, it overwrote my autosaves...... 15+ hrs. gone. This was before Skyrim, and now I just don't have time to start it again. It was a pretty good game though, good story, very redundant.

Just started Skyrim 2 days ago. It's taking up right where Oblivion left off... right next to perfection. :cool I'm betting this game will keep me busy for the next few months, but just in case it doesn't... I've got AC Revelations, and COD MW3 in waiting. :p Haven't even installed either of them yet. :( **sigh** This has been a great year for gamers, and looking at some upcoming titles, there is no end in sight. We are truly blessed to have such difficult decisions about which blockbuster to invest our time. Happy Gaming!!! :cool

Oh and one more thing about the Skyrim gameplay.. I;m not sure if everyone is using a 360 controller or not. I am using keyboard and mouse.... and when I add something to my favs... I can't assign anything except a weapon to my right hand, and only spells and shield to left hand. But if I go into my inventory.. I can assign anything to L or R hands. On a side note... when I started M1 which should have been my left hand, was actually my right hand and M2 which is right click was my left hand, so I did swap these bindings, but I've tried reverting these settings, and still could put certain items/spells in my left hand which is now M1 or left click. Anyone else experiencing this?

I won the new Battlefield 3 for PC in an online giveaway and just started playing last night (solo campaign - no online co-op until I get the game figured out) and it is freekin' AWESOME!!! Runs perfectly smooth with frame rates of 35-80 at 1920x1080 with just about all settings at "high" or "ultra". I owe the killer performance to the GTX570 and my quad AMD 3.20ghz.... I'm pretty much a 'first person shooter' type of gamer, and BF3 is one of the best I've played up to this point. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Battlefield 3 at present, kinda dont think its as good as CoD series and dont have the latest CoD yet.

GFX are good and feeling of being in a battle is good but the game physics as to needing to shoot an enemy multiple times for them to go down is poor, admittedly you as the player have a fair hit rate also.

  17. lego126

Played through the (very short) Battlefield 3 single player yesterday.
Not sure if you're referring to SP or MP but in the SP 90% of your enemies are wearing bullet proof vests/Body armor which is probably why you are needing several shots. I know I put bullets into guys, they would go down and then get back up, I put it down to body armor.

I will say though, while the game looks awesome etc etc, the SP campaign story was almost a direct rip off of MW series with a hint of Black Ops thrown in. There were also too many cut scenes and time spent in vehicles while others are talking. It actually felt like there was less time playing than watching/listening.
Having said that, it is a damn good game and the MP is right up there with the best of the best.

Not sure on MW3 as not played yet, but will soon :-D

Bought Skyrim for the 360. The world is huge! Overall, it is basically Oblivion but better in every way possible.

The graphics are better, but not as mind-blowing as I was expecting (the water effects in Bioshock 2 are still leagues ahead of this game) and the character detail is somewhat lacking (individual hair strands are not represented). Also, the ground isn't comprised of individual rocks and stones that are displaced by your footsteps. But overall, better than Oblivion.

Wow, didint realized id been away for so long ;)

Mimzy--i may have to take back the bad things i said about the original Witcher game. Just started replaying it and, with the use of the pause button i forgot was there, been enjoying it.

thesmokinggunn--BFBC had a sp game, BFBC2 was totally online pvp. My clan started playing BF3 and they seem to absolutely love it so you may want to put the time in. Im just not a big tactical fps guy and really not a big fan of pvp in general. *unless its just me and buddies, then i dont mind.

Still playing on free WoW time, as i had gift cards.

Cant buy ANY games til after Xmas, so the boss has ordered LOL

Although i snuck in an indie game thats still in alpha called Driftmoon. Real easy gameplay, interesting mechanics and super fun to play. So far its got about 10 levels and 5 areas to explore. Kind of taking the minecraft way here, paid 16 us for it and you get the rest of the game for free as it comes out.

I didn't think I would be as caught up in SkyRim as I am! I aim to do a mini mission and get so distracted by everything around me that it could take a whole day to complete! LOL I love it, just love it.

I personally prefered the SP of MW3, 3 things IW do better than anyone else are dramatic scenes, face paced action and ultra intense gameplay.
They also wrapped the story up nicely.

    Sonic Generations.

Something fun to occupy idle Winter hours, and except for the usual "bugginess" of a PC game, so far so good with the Steam client with the exception of initial install, and startup.

Thanks for the advice Mimsy, but it turned out I had to go into the game options, and re-certify the cache. Will modern wonders never cease?

I'll even be trying running it under the latest Win8 release, just for fun.

This "cloud" OS is just the developer's version right now, but the interface is interesting to say the least...

Well after 100 hours on Skyrim, I moved over to Assassins Creed Revelations. It was just like the others, great story good gameplay. It felt more like an expansion of sorts... about 98% of the game was spent in one city, which was ok, but it felt rushed to me for some reason. Maybe it's because of the lack of puzzles that were in the last one. I really thought this would be the conclusion of the apple, but instead, it was the conclusion to ..... I'll leave it at that, no spoilers. ;) Anyway, for those interested, 25 hrs. of game play, prob less if your not as through as myself. definitely worth the time and money if your into the series. Oh and I'm going back to Skyrim....

    Re-Found Everquest 2.

    Going F2p as of....well today i believe.

Without spending money, you get VERY gimped. You cant chat except if your in a guild or whispering to people, get very low gold per day limit(5g/day on free), cant send mail, only have 4 classes and races to choose from, and cant use their version of the Auction House(broker).

that said, ive had a hell of a time and forget why i even quit the game back in the day. (prob because i was all, screw that monthly payment, back then.)

Spend 5-10 bucks(one time payment) and you can upgrade to silver and at least be able to chat, get more gold per day(20g/day), more character slots(from 2 to 4) and a few other minor things.

Right now its still pretty fun as i'm just soloing content, upgrading my house, and crafting. Much more fun than other MMO's out there now as its not easy mode and crafting you actually have to pay attention to do. Get into a guild and you can chat in guild chat, which is all i ever need anyway.

I can see how, at higher levels(im 21), the per day gold and non use of auction house might gimp a person, but w/o paying a subs, you cant get more than already stated anyway. (which i only p2p 1 title at any time on principle and SWTor gets that nod for now)

LA Noire for PC. I just started it today. and I can't even get thru looking for that gun at the start. What the heck is the matter? I know my card is older, nvidia 9800 GTX, but I can ran SKYRIM on medium with pretty good performance. I've tried changing the quality to performance and balanced and quality, and there is no difference in the three. Has anyone else played it on PC? I remember hearing Mimsy talking about a few months back, but I'd bet she was playing it on PS3.

Well, after searching the web I found that even people with 580gtx's we only getting around 25-40 FPS. I was getting 5-10, then I found a website that said if you start the Lanlauncer, then go to options, then at the bottom the is a command line, and you put "-str" w/o quotes. it really helps. Not sure what it does, but like I said I was getting 5-10 b4, now I'm holding steady at 18-22. and it;s smoothed out alot.
