I've not played it on PS3 yet. I guess I should have have gotten it, I was just afraid I wouldn't like it. But since it's coming out on PC I'll have to check it out. Nov. 8th??? I could have swore it was dec. 29th. even better. :cool
Only reason I didn't get it was I was afraid it would be to much like Heavy Rain, don't get me wrong good game, not worth my my 60 bucks. (I actually bought this one)

Looks like Heavy Rain is only out for PS3? I've never heard of it.

I like the detective Adventure games though and with the reviews, I think I'll try LA Noire. It is expensive. I'm hoping the price goes down. Maybe by the time I get done the one I'm playing now (Gray Matter), it'll be on sale.

Sounds like the developer of the game wasn't very good to work with. Says a lot when the game was a success and the company said no to any other installments.

Okay...so I finally finished my last game which I loved and installed L.A Noire which I got for $12 from Steam.:)

My youngest daughter loves to play the crime adventure games with me. lol...the more inappropriate the better.

I had NO idea that i was going to have to use anything but my mouse for this. OMG. We had to start the game over after the 2nd location because my daughter killed a woman while driving (she flew over the car!:eek) and eventually killed the car.LOL It literally barely ran. We were laughing so hard at our patheticness..it was hysterical.

THEN I had to fight someone! roflmao I think he nailed me about 5-10 times before I finally figured out how to punch him back. Seriously, I wish I had a video of this all. It was bad.

ANYWay...besides that and the fact that there is going to be a high learning curve for me with this game and the controls, I have to say, the graphics are pretty freakin awesome.

I guess the point of my post is do people really use a keyboard for this stuff??? Are there gaming mice out there for it? Not that I really want to spend money on one, but the whole keyboard thing just does not seem practical...or else I'm just a complete and total fail at it.

I know it's off topic a bit but Jeez, I was thinking the same when playing that Need for Speed. I'm on PS3 but how people ACTUALLY drive cars using mice on PC is beyond me........... LOL Enjoy your gaming Laura. ;)

hahahaha!! Not very well. I should have taken a screen cap of my police car. The front bumper was hanging off, the hood flew off when my daughter crashed into a building straight on (which was after she hit the lady...who screamed and flew over the back of the car) and then the final nail in the coffin for it was running head on into a big tractor trailer truck. roflmao

I changed the driving controls to the arrows which helped a lot, but jeez. I saved $35 buying this game on sale and might end up having to buy a gaming controller thing. I wouldn't even know where to start with that.

Oh my!! LOL Sounds like chaos but so much fun!!

Now there;s a thought. You'll just have to see how you get on fo a bit, if you get more comfortable with the controls how they are and if you really don't like it, the good thing would be that the gaming controller thingy would always come in handy for future games.

I want a headset now. It's mostly men who play the race game I am on ATM, and I can hear them talking and discussing each race. I would love to hear their reactions when I clear first place whooping and shouting like the big girl that I am. They will be so shocked :-D

I think my daughter about peed her pants she was laughing so hard. roflmao

Yep...could be I will get used to it. I remember a long time ago playing Tomb Raider. That was the last one of those type games I played and it was years ago. It did get easier. The problem is I don't know how to use a game controller either, so I'd have to learn on that. I'm wondering if that would take a while. Thinking I will try to keep playing with the keyboard for a bit.

That's awesome! I love racing games but I think I'd need one of those wheels. I just glanced at those and they look like they are very expensive.

lol...after the initial OMG, a GIRL beat me, they may start trying to pick you up. LOL

    LOL LOL

I have Underworld, I got stuck near the giant octopus, pretty near the beginning of the game I think. LOL I must try and pick it up again some day.

    Sounds like a plan, Stan.

The wheels in my opinion are actually much harder because I guess they more simulate reality.. :confused That's how I found them to be anyway. I'm a button masher, me. LOL
I figured out how to change my motto, to "It's a girl!" So they know now......... :-D Still want the headset, but I am worried about forgetting I can be heard... I swear like a docker when crashing into telegraph poles :-D

So you're enjoying it then? :)

I'm also guessing you never played GTA on PC either then judging by your driving antics :-D
    , 4 letters for you.... W S A D :-D
Never could drive with the mouse, always ended up swatting something off the desk lol

I changed the WASD keys for driving to the arrows. It's much easier for me to use my right hand and have them say which way they make the car go.

Yeah, so far so good. I only got to the beating up of the first suspect. :-D We spent probably an hour and a half learning how to drive...then had to start all over again after the car stopped running.
Btw, what's up with that, Ned? How can my car fall apart? If that happens again, is my game over? :(

    Okay...nm. I found this on Gamespot's website:

    Good to know.:)

We don't. WASD or controller is the way to go. ;)

Just buy an Xbox 360 controller, a USB wired one. You're not going to sit far enough from the computer that you need it to be wireless, and the 360 controller is 100% supported by Windows, up to and including automatically installing all drivers for you. Game developers know this, so that's the one they tend to include support for when making their games.

I have LA Noire on PS3, so not sure how the controller support is on the PC version though.

How on earth do you use WASD?? You use your left hand? I have not been able to do that. I wind up using my right and reaching across the keyboard. Is there some reason to use those rather than the arrow keys?

This is going to sound pathethic, but I was looking at the controller and it looks more complicated than the keyboard.:cry

Are you talking about something like this?: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Seriously...I play adventure games. I use a mouse and click.

I played more today and it really is pretty fun. I shot bank robbers and chased some dude over rooftops.

lol No, just take someone elses car, it's not GTA so you're commandeering a car instead of stealing it :-D
Best to grab a cop car though because you get the police radio for emergency response missions and the siren is very handy for getting traffic to get out of the way.

but you can take any car as far as I know.

I have noticed that the "Doubt" questioning option is often the right answer, I'm finding the questioning a little difficult, I'm really good at reading people... I'm a salesman :-D but I often get them wrong, for the longest time I thought the little jingle sound you get when it's wrong was the sound for correct :-D
And in gunfights, as with any other shooter... take your time and go for the head shot, 1 hit - 1 kill.

As for PS3 controller on PC, havn't looked into it lately but it used to be virtually impossible to get one to work but I think I saw PS3 controllers for PC on a website I "Stumbled Upon" :-D

hahaha! Yeah, I saw that on the one site about the cars. I figure when my damn cop car wouldn't move, my game was over and started over.

So, from what I'm seeing it looks like we are doing different calls and cases? The first time I played I saw some guy running with a handback that he seemed to have stolen while driving to the first case. Are you supposed to get out and chase them?

I haven't questioned anyone yet and frankly, I think my guy would have died about 10 times over in the bank robbery gun fight. I couldn't quite master the whole get cover and shoot thing much less go for the head shot. LOL

Left hand on WASD, right hand on the mouse with the programmable extra buttons. It's hugely awkward until you figure it out, but once you have had a chance to practice it's actually pretty easy. It's like any other new game or platform, that throws new control scheme at you: at first it's frustrating and impossible, but once you get used to it, you eventually do it all automatically, without even thinking about it.

I rarely ever game on the PS3, because the controller and it's lack of options frustrates me. It won't let me reprogram any of the buttons! :cry

Seriously...I play adventure games. I use a mouse and click.

Exactly like that one. Unless I'm very much mistaken, that's the exact same one I use on my PC. :)

And if you're starting to get used to the mouse and keyboard, regardless of how you use them, give that way of playing a fair chance before you give up on it. Give yourself time to get used to the gameplay, and cut yourself some slack over the fact that there is a steep and often a bit unforgiving learning curve if you're new to shooting games and fighting games. One of the advantages of PC gaming as opposed to consoles, is that you very often can customize the control input scheme to whatever method works best for you.

I set every single game I play to use WASD for maneuvering my character/vehicle, and map the camera to the mouse. That works for me, and whatever works for others works for others.

As long as you are having fun with the game, it really doesn't matter how you're playing it. :)

  18. Nedlamar

While driving along you will sometimes hear the police radio calling for response to some crime, up in the left top corner it says to left click (default) if you wish to respond.
Once you accept you will have what looks like a Traffic light Crossing "Walk" man marked on your map.
    Follow it.

These are often shootouts that end in death... either theirs or yours lol
But you earn points and rewards for doing them.

Follow the mainquest for a while, it eases you in fairly well and tells you how to perform acts and questioning etc.
Albeit via a fairly quick message in the top left corner lol

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

K...I'm giving the left hand a try and now know why it's set up that way with the mouse. :-DIt's getting easier as I go.

hehe...I'm a detective now. *big grin* Omg, but I suck at interrogation. My first one I had to do over 8 times (no lie).

This really is fun. I've never played a game where you complete stuff and then move on. I'm used to the adventure games that play out more like a movie.

So it's a fun game? When I first saw the trailer I couldn't wait to play it, then I was unsure the second time I saw it. I think I'll wait until I get a PS3 to play. I don't think I'd get very far playing in on the computer. Unless its a point and click game or has very simple controls like the arrow keys + space bar, maybe a letter key or two, I'm awful! LOL

If you like crime adventure games like Still Life, its definitely fun. :)

Its definitely not point and click though. I didn't know that. It's taking me some getting used to but I'm figuring the controls out and the game gives you instructions and tips if you keep that feature on, which I do. LOL

Believe me, if I can figure out the key board controls for this, anyone can.

  22. mischiefmanaged

    mischiefmanaged Private E-2

I don't think I've heard about Still Life. I think I'll check it out. :)

I think I'll get the PC version... It'll be a while before I can play if I wait to get it when I get a PS3... It'll take some time to learn and get used to the controls, but that can be fun too?

I can see it now: I'm supposed to be on a high speed chase and I'm stuck driving in circles. LOL

  23. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

Still Life was good. It's a serial killer crime adventure game, so you'd have to like something like that. :)

As far as the driving, read up at some of my earlier posts. LOL Believe me, you'd learn if I did.

  24. mischiefmanaged

    mischiefmanaged Private E-2

Oh my goodness. LOL Sounds like fun! My sister and I used to play together a lot and not far into the game we'd be red faced, barely able to breathe, sides aching from laughter... I had that problem with Grand Theft Auto. I stilll don't know how to drive properly but I'm not hitting nearly as many pedestrians as I did when I first played. :-D

I checked out the trailer for Still Life and I'm going to play it after I finish my current game.

  25. Mimsy

But hitting the pedestrians is the whole point of Grand Theft Auto! :-D

  26. mischiefmanaged

Hehehe! That's what I thought at first too but the constant car chases and eventual beatings from the police changed my mind. If game overs are the goal, I am the champ! :-D

Ok...I seriously need help with the controls for gunfights (Ned...since you're the only one I know is playing this).

I can not figure out how to get the guy to move! I know how to shoot and punch and all that, but the damn thing won't do anything but go from side to side with the A and D control. It says hit the W and some other button, but I have no idea what that button is. It looks like ctrl L???? That's pretty awkward though and hitting those does nothing for me.

    Help me :cry

  31. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

I'm assuming you are ducked behind cover?
So you can pop out and shoot and then safely duck back down?
Yes I think the default is L-Ctrl to bring you out of cover at which point you will resume normal movement.
The sysmbols are not very clear I know, it took me a couple of guesses in some points to figure out which key was the one I wanted, but then I've customized mine to suit my mouse/Keyboard.

But yes, "Left Ctrl" = Enter/Exit Cover by default.

Here is the online manual with Default Key Bindings on page 6

    http://support.rockstargames.com/attachments/token/rrwtv4mxi8xnrsr/?name=L.A._Noire_PC_Manual.pdf

    Hope that helps :)

PS: Remember, when in a gun fight, stay calm, these bad guys are piss poor shots so you DO have time to think about what you're doing, just don't stand still in the line of fire while thinking :-D
Tip: Take out the guys with full auto weapons first, they provide the biggest threat.

  32. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

I think so. But yeah, it starts with him under cover. For example, if I'm in a doorway (which is the last one I tried), I could get him to go from one side to the other of the door. I couldn't get him to move other than that though...well, I did, but I don't know what I did to do it and he basically walked straight up to the guy and the guy shot him point blank. :-o:-D

Ohhh! Left-ctrl, not the L key and ctrl...well, that makes more sense.

    The link is broken.

Thanks!:) Hopefully it will. I'll try more calmly to use the left control button rather than frantically pushing L and ctrl over and over. :-D

Yeah, I noticed that no matter how long it took me to finally get out of cover, the dude was still there. lol

    Thanks, Ned!

  33. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Ah, just realised what it's is trying to tell you with the W+ L Ctrl, if I remember right it's the option to move around cover corners while retaining cover.... although I might have that confused with Batman :-D In any case it's an option I have never needed or used except by accident.
But yeah, just "L-Ctrl" on it's own will enter/exit cover.

Remember.... go for the headshot and when you get it you have to loudly call out "BOOM... Head...shot b**ch" like a boss :major

As for the link, that's odd, try this one....

    http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20663247-download-l-a-noire-pc-manual

Edit: Ohhhh I just clicked in, you were reading it as "L + ctrl" lol, yeah like I said, the icons for key strokes are a bit odd, there's one with 2 oposite arrows that I think is the Tab key which confused the crap out of me at first, this is why I like customizing my controls because I will simply remember where they are because I set them there :)

  34. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

Yeah, the W+ L ctrl was what was confusing me. :(

I'll try it again today at some point and if I do manage to actually shoot someone and kill them I'll remember this:

    roflmao

Last night I was playing and was doing the street racing thing. Got the guy on my first try, but had my headphones in since hubby and kids were watching tv. At one point I yelled cause I thought I lost him and my husband looked at me like I was nuts. :-D All I could say was 'sorry, thought I lost the guy'. lol

That works! and will be most helpful. Thanks. I was looking for a manual and couldn't find it.

Ah the moments only gamers understand :-D
My girlfriend is used to it although I have calmed down considerably , I used to pretty much have 1 sided arguments with characters because they were "Cheating" :-D
Or taunting a bunch of pixels when I got beaten.... "Oh ok, you wanna play like that, well lets see how you handle thi (bang, dead).... FFffffff...... :mad " :-D

  36. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

LOL...I haven't gotten there yet. Give me a bit more and I might though.

Okay..well, I at least got the guy moving and got my first radio call case by shooting 4 guys. I'm still pretty pathetic though.

    Thanks for the help Ned.:)

  37. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

I do that all the time! I argue with the characters, I insult them, complain to them, and vent frustrations and anger every chance I get! LOL

Last night, I was in my room playing Neverwinter Nights 2, The Guy was in his room playing Skyrim, and we both started cussing loudly at our respective games almost at the exact same time. That was funny. :-D

  38. Nedlamar

No problem Laura, have fun with it :)

@Mimsy... :-D Classic behaviour, my boy loves watching me play games, used to sit there for hours just watching and laughing at me making fun of characters body language or something they say. I'm terrible when someone threatens me, talking to Caesar in Fallout NV when he's telling me what to do, I saved and killed him just for the satisfaction and then obviously got slaughtered by his 5 million guards, but then reload it and as he;s telling me what to do , I'm like "Yeah whatever dude, you know I can take you before your boys get me" :-D

    It remains utterly awesome.

    Spoiler alert:

I just joined forces with Casavir and went after the orcs with him. After the orcs, we're going on and down into the "basement"... and suddenly, having a paladin in the group is extremely handy. I just stand back, let him do the whole "smite undead" thing, and watch in awe. Against anything undead, Casavir is a bad-a** of epic proportions. He took out eight of them in two rounds, while the rest of us were just watching! :strong
