i Just bought a new PC. i have a couple questions from the 'How to protect yourself from malware' thread.

My Pc is running windows 7.

In the Firewall section it doesnt say if the windows 7 firewall is sufficent? If it isnt i will download and outpost firewall and disable the windows one.

In the Antispware tools i downloaded Micrsoft security essentials for Winbdows 7. Since i also downloaded Avast as my anti Virus is it ok to run both these?

In the disable the autoruns feature there is no update for windows 7?

While the Windows 7 firewall is better than what was in previous versions of Windows, it is still very inadequate.

No! MSE is and antivirus and antispyware. So is Avast. You can only have one of them installed.

Microsoft has never updated their info ( from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715 ) for Windows 7 so I'm not sure if everything that is used for Vista would apply.

You can just run this >> Autorun Eater

From the list of Antispyware free tools the only one that isnt an antivirus as well is IObit Malware fighter. Is that correct? If so i can use this with Avast?

To clarify, IObit Malware Fighter is a free antispyware tool with real time protection. It is not just a free tool like SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes.

If you are looking for free tools with realtime protection then your choices are more limited. IObit's tool will like run okay with conflicting with Avast. However since you are looking for an antivirus, antispyware, and firewall, I would recommend using Comodo Internet Security with all protection components buillt in and it has one of the highest rated firewalls. In addition, it works fine with 64 bit systems like you probably have base on your comment about the error with Outpost.

Ok thank you. Should i have enabled the Safe DNS at the beginning of install of Commodo Internet Security?

    You're welcome.
It's your choice. For some people, these can prove to be helpful.
