For a while (ever since I updated my BIOS, I think) my computer have been taking around 10 minutes to shut down and after the 10 minutes it shows a blue screen for a second and then it restarts/shutdown. I recorded the computer screen while it was shutting down and was able to take a screenshot of the blue screen. Also, ever since the BIOS update my laptop isnt charging. I bought 2 new chargers, 2 batteries and changed the whole power jack adapter for a brand new one and nothing changed. This is what it says:

P.S. If I boot using Linux the computer shuts down just fine. I completely formatted my computer and installed Windows XP and also used the computer restore disk to return it to factory settings with Windows Vista and it still giving me the same issue. At the moments I'm using Windows XP.

    Code:
    DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

If this is the first time you've seen this stop screen.
Restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components , restart your computer, press F8 to select Advances Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Hi

Its likely to be a driver issue, so in Device Manager do you have any devices with a red x or yellow ! mark by them and if so what are they?

it may also be worth popping out the motherboard battery for 20mins and then replace and enter the BIOS and reset time, date and boot order as the BIOS update may have corrupted the data held.

OK I'll try that today and post the results. Do you think that has something to do with the computer not charging?

I removed the motherboard battery for 1 hour then went to BIOS and set it to default but it still has the issue.

Could you list your startups as one of them could be causing this and to test boot in to safe mode (F8 at boot and choose Boot With Networking) and see if your PC works ok.

Could also attach a copy of your startups for us to review as per the below guide

It appears that most of the 0x0000009f BSOD's are either sleep/hibernation, firewire or USB issues, with a scattering of seemingly random things like drivers for Roxio software thrown in. Take a look at these MSFT search results and see if any of them have anything in common with your problem.

Have you tried another BIOS version? Are you sure you used the correct one from HP/Compaq?
