Blackberry Keyboard Lock

    Oh dear.

Well I was in a half-sleeping stupor the other morning, dragging me butt outta bed for work, and unfortunately chose that moment to enable the keyboard lock on my BB 9550 (storm2).

Somehow, the simple password I have faithfully entered day-in and day-out for over a year got messed up. I assume it was a finger slip of one manner or another.

The bottom line is that the password I use is not the password I enabled the lock with on this particular morning, and I somehow managed to screw it up the same way, twice in a row.

After re-entering the pw, trying again with caps, trying a couple others that I thought I may have entered out of some half-conscious idiocy, I find myself in the very unfortunate situation of having a phone with tons of important information locked away from me, that is threatening to wipe itself clean should I re-enter the password wrong just one more time.

Now, I am not an experienced BB user (although I am quickly becoming one due to this), and of course I didn't back it up. The primary reason for this is that the only computer I have had since I acquired it (almost 2 years ago) was a simple netbook. It took me a long time to realize that I didn't need the BB installation CD in order to begin using my netbook for basic backup. Just one week ago, I finally borrowed a pc, transferred the CD files to a USB stick, and then installed on the netbook. This was a stroke of brilliance for a man who is a tech illiterate. Sadly, I was just one week too late in backing up my phone, and now I risk having nothing.

I desperately need the help of someone with a very advanced skillset. It is my understanding that copies can be made of pw-protected files saved to the removable sandisk, and, using those copies, one can potentially crack this encryption with brute-force.

Based on what the password SHOULD have been, I believe I can narrow the possibilities to under 50,000 examples--and that's being thorough.

Additionally, the only program I have come upon that purports to be coded for this kind of application is alarming as a virus on AVG.

So, I write to these forums for the following aid:

    1) Where would be the best place to look for someone with the skills to do what I am looking for? I am expecting to pay a fair bit--I only have one shot.

    2) How would the files be extracted from the Sandisk (i.e. Borrow another BB?)

    3) What programs are available that can perform this kind of operation? As I say, the only one I have run across doesn't look like I actually want to execute it on my computer--but I would assume once the files are extracted and replicated a generic cracking program should suffice, no?

I understand that a how-to guide to file-cracking is not exactly something that people want to divulge. In this instance, however, it was a simple error that could prove to be very very very costly to me should I lose all the data on my BB.

Please keep all snide remarks re: backups to yourself. There is a reason I didn't bother posting on Crackberry. The primary posters there seem to relish in the ignorance of others, while doing not a lot to help.

If, rather than posting some kind of help in the forums, you would rather message me privately, I would be EXTREMELY grateful.

    Thank you.

You can get the files back from the Micro SD card with a card reader; but If I remember this, I will ask a tech at work (RIM) because I do not know how o which application they use to do that without locking or deleting the data in the card.

Yes, that's essentially where I reach a roadblock.

I know I can gain access to the files, however, how do I replicate the files to allow the cracking software to make attempts on the pw without actually using up my one and only shot?

OK, I ask a tech and he told me that you do not need to panic because the phone only will shut down and re-start, and it is rare that doing that will delete the data. Since I did not work on the production and I do not work in the Repair Centre, of that model, I can not tell you if the method we use for testing (pulling the battery out) will eliminate that risk, but we do that, pull the battery out and leave it for half hour maybe and put it in and see what happens. As a prevention, take the SD card out if you have something (I guess it is where you keep your data), otherwise that data will be stored in the SIM Card. Let us know.;)
