    Hi

I've got an HP machine running Vista.

When I hit F8 at boot to get to Advanced Boot Options (where one selects Safe Mode) I don't have an option for Safe Mode. The only options I have are:

    HP Start Up Repair
    Start Windows Normally

How do I bypass that HP utility and get into Safe Mode?

Test your timing. Try to hit F8 immediately as the HP screen ends and just before the Windows logo comes up and see if you get the Advanced options screen.

Also, have you tried HP Startup Repair to see if it has a link to the Advance menu?

If you give your model HP, the manual may have some info.

Well if I don't do anything, the computer boots normally and goes straight into the OS. F8 takes me to Advanced Boot Options, which normally has Safe Mode, but it appears that HP Startup Repair has replaced Safe Mode on the menu.

BTW, I just looked, it's running Windows 7, not Vista (eek!).
