What brought you here?

Hey Guys,
Was thinking about what brought me here, and wondered what brought most of you here.
This is my story:
I was really up in the air about a career choice and I wanted to get into IT but was thinking of other things as well. Did a lot of thinking (and praying) about what I should do and I stumbled across this site( the day after my birthday last year). I lurked for a few minutes Hehe, liked it, registered and I've been here ever since. Also settled on the It field for a career partly because of the answers and things I've learned on this amazing site.

I cannot remember, but it was probably the Froot Loops we used to have in The Lounge.

 

One of my very good friends, known online as Ralf_Kramden, used to post here before he passed away. When we both got kicked out of our moderator positions at another site (now defunct), he told me I should come here. I never left.

I was searching the web for an answer and clicked on a link to MajorGeeks forum. I liked the discussion and the answer so I searched around the forum and found more excellent discussions, answers and tips

Oh, who am I kidding. I heard there was free cake so I joined (still waiting by the way) :-D

 

I was looking for tech help on an obscure computer problem outside of my expertise.

 

I googled for cleaning computer and lost job and was broke. when i found few sites i checked them over. seeing if legit place.

 

This is a question asked every so often it seems. First one was in 2005. If you look at the Similar Threads section at the bottom of this thread it was asked in 2008.

I can't remember; however, I think it had something to do with surfing porno sites and accidentally landing here instead.

Like most of the others, I was looking for answers. liked what I saw and read, and have no regrets about sticking around.
Never thought of looking anywhere else.

I actually think it was a heat issue with my sons video card.

 

Thought my hard drive was running slow but it wasn't,that's it:cool

 

Yep, much the same scenario as David, for me.

 

I was just looking for a technical support forum where I could discuss related things.

Also looking for some people that aren't a bunch of uptight buttwads. You guys are the most unbuttwadish people I know.

I came here to piss off an ex and fell in love with the people waaaaaaay back when it was new and shiny.

Meantime, and entire decade later, I still check back from time to time, but I have a life now so I can't chase Kodo through the posts to the tune of 20K posts/month anymore. Kodo still doesn't have a life, but I made him my B*tch so he doesn't come out to play anymore.

Was on a R52 IBM Lenovo laptop. 1.3GHz Pentium (M) 256 MB RAM. XP SP3.
Posted an online HJT in the software forum. :eek It got caught up in the forum filters. :-D Finally got through though.

My issue was that I had to restore to factory every week, else boot times went over double. Once booted all was fine.

Adrynalyne the good old Blue Screen wizard and regular at that time responded. Was advised to upgrade RAM, which I did, still no go.

Zapped the drive with Active KillDisk and Used Ubuntu for a while.
Then came Win 7 RC and shifted back back to Windows.
Learnt so much here on MG for free and am very thankful. Enjoy being here and offer help, when I feel I have the knowledge to respond to a query and do justice (quality wise) to the site's standards.

That computer brought me here back in like '99 ... the thing was blue screening me. Compaq said it was McAfee, McAfee said it was Microsoft, Microsoft said it was Compaq. I uninstalled McAfee and found AVG here. Then I found ZoneAlarm. Then I found the real answer to my problem on the forums. Hooked!
