So recently my system has been randomly rebooting itself.
Here's the most recent crash info.
    BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 000000E8 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001
    BCP4 : 806E4A16 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

    C:\DOCUME~1\EE\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3df9.dir00\Mini020212-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\EE\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3df9.dir00\sysdata.xml

What other info do you need to try and help me out or what forum will I find more info. I ran Super Anti Spyware and got no bad results.

Thee are a lot of things that can cause random reboots.

I guess to start I would boot a WinXP install CD and run the Repair Console.
Log in as Administrator and run "chkdsk /r". This may take a while but will find and try to repair any corruption on th HDD. After that, I would run the diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of the HDD.

If all that checks good, post back.

I should have included this info from my event log
    This error occured,
    Service Control Manager
    Event ID 7000
The DgiVecp service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

    Followed by
    Service Control Manager
    Event ID 7000
The Upload Manager service failed to start due to the following error:
The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.

    Then this error
    System Error
    Category (102)
    Event ID 1003
    Error code 1000000a, parameter1 000000e8, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 806e4a16.

I ran the check disk and it seemed ok. I need to dig out my XP disc to run the console.

If you can track down that Mini020212-01.dmp, copy it to your Desktop then zip and attach it, I may be able to glean some info from it. If you can't find it at the stated temp location, look in Windows\Minidump.

For the DgiVecp missing error, check out this thread, it should give you enough info to track down the culprit and fix the error. The driver referred to seems to be common to several printers over the years.

I did track that driver fix a little while ago. So maybe changing the 2 to 4 will help.

I'll see about the mini dump file.
Thanks both of you guys. I'll update.

I haven't run a debug yet, a quick glance at the drivers loaded when XP crashed (via BlueScreenView) and I see lxionixu42s.sys - this doesn't exist in a Google search. This frequently happens where malware is involved.

Just did a quick analysis and it occurred, I think, while Firefox was focussed and there was a lot of activity over a USB port - it does look like an odd stack to me.

Head over to the Malware forum please and work your way carefully through our Read and Run, if you come across a problem, make notes, when you have the needed logs, create a new thread over there and attach the logs.

The lxonyxu42s is my audio interface which is a USB device manufactured by Lexicon. I plug my microphone in it and use it to record voice work with Adobe Audition 3.0

I'll also add in here that sometimes when using firefox the audio from videos doesn't want to play. Seems like communication between my system and the Lexicon stops. If I reboot it resets the system and I get audio again. I've updated the drivers.

Ah yes, once the driver name is broken down to 'lx onix u42s' it's easy to find out what it is; given that it's probably pretty rare on PC's that are regularly used for day-to-day web surfing and the high proportion of them that would be connected to Macs with different drivers, it's no big surprise that Google was a fail ;)

    STOP 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Usual causes: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

Standard troubleshooting procedure for 'randomly rebooting' usually consists of checking all internal and external hardware connectors, testing the memory for 7+ runs with Memtest86+, running chkdsk /r on the drive, updating all drivers, including software drivers esp. for any security software ...

A little more history of this problem might help cut a few corners, as would any other recent memory dumps. Was Firefox always running when this happened? Any hardware or software changes just before this problem first started?

No recent hardware or software changes. It's been doing this for the past 4-5 weeks maybe 1-3 times a week. Firefox is usually running when it happens. I'm going to update to the current version today.

    I'll do the memtest86+ today.

Try creating a new profile for Firefox, there may be a glitch in the current one - hold down the left Shift key as you click the FX icon to open the dialog box to begin the process. See also here for alt. methods and here for troubleshooting Firefox.

Using Pale Moon is a valid alternative, it's a somewhat lighter and faster version of Firefox and it uses it's own profile.

A recent Norton/Symantec update could be behind this too.

Can you fill us in on your hardware specs so we can get a feel for any potential bottlenecks?

Running DPC Latency Checker might pick up something useful.

    the system is a p4 3.2ghz processor
    intel 915G/P/GV motherboard
    2GB Ram

I did the latentcy test and it shows no problem to run streaming audio video content

  14. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Ok, so your biggest bottleneck will be the ancient Intel graphics then, unless you have a card fitted.

The DPC shows you have good drivers too, maybe you could run it in the background for a while while you go through a few of your common routines, maybe something will trigger a big hit?

You'll have to help out here more often then ;) - thanks for all your work John :)

I think I may have figured out the issue. I had been leaving my Adobe Audition 3.0 software up and running most of the day in the past. I started starting it and closing it afterward as needed. I haven't had any crashes since I started doing that. My off and on sound issue also has not reoccurred either. So, it's possible that the Lexicon interface and Audition may have been having an issue with communicating while Firefox was running. The off and on sound issue has an easy fix by just unplugging the USB cord from the Lexicon and replugging it in if it happens.

    I appreciate ya'll helping out.

I'm pleased that you seem to have tracked down the culprit :) - but, as it's an Adobe product (and they are one of the major vectors for malware attack) ensure that you keep all Adobe software fully patched.
