Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Working on an HP Pavilion desktop.
    Blank monitor at powerup.
Have removed and reconnected all cables.
Have tried on a different monitor.
Removed and reinstalled all 4 memory sticks.(after trying each separately).
Bought a new GeForce 7300 GT card and still nothing.
Hard drive spins up , but no signal to the display.

Motherboard has issues, most likely (obviously) pertaining to the AGP slot. You covered all the bases, without replacing the motherboard you might be at a dead end. Did you test the power supply levels?

Is this old machine you are trying to resurrect or one that just stopped displaying video?

Maybe clear CMOS or replace CMOS battery if it is an older machine that hasn't been used in a while.

Sorry, I posted same time as MA. I'm sure he can give better hardware advice than I. I just had an old Compaq that used to have trouble with video after sitting unused for a while and usually took some combination of no CMOS battery, replace CMOS battery and or clearing the jumper to get video started. After that all was well even with a dead battery.

    Fairly new machine.
Came with Vista Home Premium installed.
Was working fine .Then it was shut down for the night.
The problem presented itself next morning when trying to power it up.
Had been running on-board graphics. Reason for the new card.
Do not have a multimeter to test leads with. Sorry, MA.

AGP card? Did you connect a power lead to it? And the even more insulting, but everyone has made the mistake at least once, did you connect the monitor to the new card instead of the onboard video conncector?

    Card and slot are PCI-E.
Positive that I connected the monitor to the new card.
Connected while the side was off and could confirm. :p

My instincts are screaming "PSU", but I could be mistaken.

Was there any audible pop, or an odor to your knowledge when the PC was powered up?

    Have you cleared the CMOS?

You really need a voltmeter, and a jumper wire...

    No pop, odor, or smoke.
No, haven't tried clearing the CMOS.
    Will try tomorrow.

Have you tried going back to the on-board graphics?

Got the model of the HP? I worked on one recently (a 2009 model) that had all kinds of odd video and hard drive issues. From researching I found out HP had all kinds of issues with the motherboard due to inadequate cooling of the chipset that literally fried the chip (when I took the heatsink off the southbridge chip the surface of the chip was bubbled). Got the guy a $45 Biostar board (HP wanted $300 to send him the same board that would cook in a year) and it runs fine.

Lately on the HP forums I read a lot about mobo's dying on 2008-2011 HP desktops due to cheap mobo's w/inadequate cooling.
