recently, my aunt got some random to reinstall her sony vaio

it's a jap laptop, model: VGN-SS54B/S with id: PCG-6H2N the back.

everything works fine except there's no sound. I'm quite sure the sound card isn't broken as the sony vaio music plays on start up and errors still emit the regular *beep*

I tried downloading realtek sound driver and it doesn't work.
tried downloading sony utility via google translation but also doesn't seem to help find sound drivers

I'm clueless as how to solve this problem now ><

can someone lend a hand please?

    thanks in advance

If you have startup music your drivers should already be installed.

Do you have the speaker icon on the right side of the bottom taskbar? If you right-click it and select open volume mixer is anything muted?

there is no startup music, only sony vaio sound

and no, there's no speaker icon in the task tray

I was hoping that it was simply a muting problem since you had some sound. I'm not good with drivers so I hope someone else will jump in.

I think I would get your chipset driver (don't worry that the model is slightly different this should be the one for your system too) install it, reboot and then try the Realtek driver again.

thanks sach2 for the prompt response

however, that didn't solve the problem, sound device is still detected as non existent

the best guess I can come up with is that it's to do with jap laptop not accepting non-original drivers

Here's the Sony drivers downloads page.

    I can't find a VGN-SS model. The closest I come is VGN-SZ

You probably need the chipset drivers to get the sound chip functional.
If you can figure out what motherboard and sound chip, perhaps one of the other models uses the same hardware.

Here's the support page but I can't input Japan

Perhaps you can click "detect my model".
