Can't install any of the spyware programs

My desktop was running really, really slowly. It kept saying my CPU was at 100% so I ran process explorer and noticed it was due to Hardware Interrupts eating it up. I'd set my PC up to run the spyware programs (show all hidden files, run Defogger, msconfig on normal, etc.) but before I installed them, I wanted to try to fix the horrible slow process problem as it would take hours to install the programs alone. I read on a forum that my IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers need to be on DMA and not PIO. My primary was on DMA but not my secondary. I changed my secondary to DMA and rebooted. Then Windows had to be reinstalled. I can't get on the internet so I downloaded all the spyware programs to a USB and trasnferred them to my PC desktop. Now when I try to run Super AntiSpyware I get this error message, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on Ok to terminate the application." I'm really worried I screwed things up bad.

Can I run these programs in safe mode? Otherwise, what advice do you gurus have for me?

You confused me here. Did you mean to say that Windows had to be rebooted? Or did you reinstall Windows?

I had to reinstall Windows, I believe. It made me call a number and I had to input like 8 sets of 6 digits and then it gave me as many numbers back to input so I'm assuming that is a reinstall?

 

Not necessarily. The process you are talking about is activating Windows XP over the phone.

What types of problems are you currently experiencing? Did you have any success installing and running the scans while in Safe Mode? (Starting your computer in Safe mode)

 

No, I have 2 tests tomorrow and have been studying for those. I will start the installation in safe mode tomorrow between school and work. Thanks for your responses, I will post what happens tomorrow.
