    Hey guys,

I've followed the instructions for normal malware removal, and attempted using ComboFix and TDSSKiller to remove ZeroAccess and nothing seems to work. ComboFix keeps telling me I'm still infected after going through the process several times.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Okay, now while I continue to work up a fix, there are a couple other preparation steps I need you to follow that were specified in the READ & RUN ME.

First uninstall AVG 2012 and AVG PC Tuneup 2011 as these will get in the way of proper execution of ComboFix and other steps.

    Also uninstall Viewpoint Media Player

Also as requested in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME, you must run MSconfig and put your PC into Normal Startup mode. Then reboot your PC. By the time you do this and come back, I should have a next set of steps posted.

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {472734EA-242A-422b-ADF8-83D1E48CC825} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [37210] C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\dubmnaxxxz.pif

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up because you recieve the following error: Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion then you will need to reboot your computer which will normally fix this problem.

After reboot, continue with the below.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.

See the download links under this icon http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/dll.gif
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Sorry for the delay.
I went through the steps outlined. Please find the logs attached.

Edit: System is saying the combofix.txt is too large, I've attached it as an archive instead.

I figured out that these must be for Python Fitting Assistant

You still seem to have a TDL infection. I see the below in your logs and many of your driver files have to keep getting fixed.

    \\.\globalroot\systemroot\system32\mswsock.dll

    Hey!

Everything is fine now. I was still moderately infected after going through your steps, but we apparently took care of the brunt of the issue. Another sweep with SAS and then manually deleting some infections with regrun warrior took care of the rest.

    The folders above are:
1.Game folder that got left over after uninstall, already cleaned out.
2.Appdata folder for Deus Ex Human Revolution
3.Pyfa is a program I regularly use, nothing to worry about.
4.RenPy is a dependency of a program I use for work.

And lastly, very very many thanks for all your help. I really appreciate your time, and I hope to not repeat the lapse in judgement that led to this incident.

You're welcome. See message # 8. You are still not totally clean. The effects of the TDL infection are still there.

Please rerun TDSSkiller and attach a new log from it.

Okay that's good but I don't like the idea that the globalroot infection was previously still showing. Also your netbt.sys driver path is still pointing to the temporary name that TDSSkiller previously put in place. Let's see if the globalroot item still shows.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

Okay these logs look clean now. Apparently you needed one more reboot after the previous fixes on 2/10 to finish cleaning things out.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
