Legal question of 2 installs of same OS

I think this would be legal but would like to get some opinions.
Using a virtualization program (VMWare Player), I want to install the same operating system on the same machine to be able to have a more secure avenue for online banking.
From a hardware standpoint, the install would be legal since the hardware is exactly the same.
However, in running the virtual machine at the same time as the underlying system is running, there would be 2 instances of the system active at the same time. That is my question about legal issues.
This is easily remedied by either running a different legal OS or a linux distro. However, this is for the wife's use since she does the bill paying and I don't want to tie up one of my legal OS's. I have not broached the linux idea either which may/may not be a nonstarter.
So any opinions, thoughts or remedies guys?
    TIA

    Hi J

As the hardware is the same then its fine in a OS licence point of view BUT in the OS point of view of software then if running an OS even in VM then two licences are needed unless you are running a free NIX OS, but Windows will need two licences sadly.

Sorry to give you bad news J

I did look into this with virtualisation and licences and it was multiple licences needed.

I kind of half expected that answer anyway with both OS's active at the same time but thought it was best to get a definitive answer.
I'll just have to extoll the virtues of Ubuntu and security to get my project off the ground.;)
It should be pretty easy as the wife is more of a software geek than hardware and security. (That's where I come in.:-D)

    Thanks:major

Ubuntu or some other Linux OS might work fine for your wife since she would mainly need to be familiar with using the web browser in it. If an office suite is also desired, OpenOffice or LibreOffice are options; I believe one of them is bundled with Ubuntu.

However, I'm wondering why the concern about online banking. I have been doing online banking for 10+ years and also making online purchases for almost that long. Surely, your bank's website works in an encrypted mode (https, not http). If not, you need to find another bank.

It is not really a concern but more of a shove to actually do it online rather than send in checks. I'm not leary of the bank connection as it is a secure one.
We have a secure network, wired and wireless, and the transactions would be by wired computer but for some reason she has not gotten into this aspect. We make online purchases quite a few times a year and have not had any problems with fraud.
I just want to present the set up as secure as possible to get the ball rolling. (And stop having to buy all those expensive damn stamps.;))
Just one of those things that has not been a priority to change but needs to from my point of view.
We can be amazingly non-geeky sometimes.:-o
