Before you try to install that toolbar software: just to let you know - it is always actually WAY better to install your new programs; such as Google toolbar from either right here at Major Geeks (or from the main Google website).

Many other third party download sites out there (and especially filehippo.com!) often times do not provide the latest and best updated software .exe installation files; so therefore the files are often outdated or (even useless, sometimes).

My Advice: Go here instead: Google toolbar from Major Geeks or you can also download and install Google toolbar directly to onto IE from their main website too.

Side Note: You can trust me on this one, Robert... I actually test new freeware programs as a hobby; and I can tell you from my own experience that MajorGeeks.com always has the very latest downloads available... (save it to your favorites, for future downloads!) Also, just so you know; I've actually had several very bad experiences in the past when using fillipo.com (before I started coming to Major Geeks for all of my program downloads and updates.)

Well, the version of the toolbar being offered by both MG and FileHippo is the same, so that's one they've got right.

I have to disagree with you regarding your negative comments about FileHippo. I check their site daily, as well as MG, SourgeForge and SnapFiles, and not only are they as up-to-date as anyone else, I have never had any problems at all with downloads from those places.

I'm curious as to why anyone would want to install a toolbar of any sort, especially a Google toolbar. Google tracks you enough as it is, installing their toolbar just makes it easier for them to do so.

    Hi there Solaris,

Glad to hear it, really solaris! ;)

However, while I'm certainly glad you've had no problems at all with FileHippo, I can only speak from my own very bad experiences that I had with that site. Also, I'm just saying MajorGeeks.com is a far superior and especially "safer" place for downloaders to come to; (at least in my opinion, it is) - and in particular for those who are new to doing it and might have questions or need assistance before, during or after the installation process.

Additionally, this site (MajorGeeks.com, I mean); not only always has the most updated programs downloads (IMO), but Tim Tibbetts, the webmaster/co-owner of the site also actually 'backs up' the apps that are listed in here - by having an extremely well moderated forum available (this is not so with the folks who run FileHippo.com which offers no on-site help forum). At MG, forum members can post questions/complaints about anything we might try, and they also offer many threads in the "Welcome To Majorgeeks.com Forums" section for the forum users relating to "Guides" and "Frequently Asked Questions" and the "MajorGeeks Welcome Center" including listing many useful Video Tutorials with tips for program use in general. And in here they always competently reply to any posted threads very quickly compared to many other software forums available out there.

I actually used to download apps from that FileHippo website for open source, freeware, and shareware programs for Windows a few years back. At that time I had major problems with several - like 3 or 4 - different .exe file download installations within the course of about a month or two and then finally decided to stop going to them entirely because: (1) They do have a 'user comments' section after each listing; but do not offer their own on-site web forum to ask questions; or if users have any problems while or after installing the programs that they list. If something goes wrong or if you have questions about the apps, you’re basically on your own… (2) Unlike most of the more reputable download websites, FileHippo very often does not adequately list whether programs are either adware or shareware and they do not warn about possible 'toolbars' or other 'extra' usually unnecessary additional programs offered while the user is installing (like they do warn you in the program descriptions here at MajorGeeks). They often just give a brief description most times and usually it is very similar or even identical to the one found on the developers site.

Also a huge negative IMO; is the fact that there is absolutely no one to contact at FileHippo if their .exe files are corrupted or the user discovers that they have adware/spyware within them. They do have a very basic "contact form" listed on the website this states that: “We receive a large number of messages and may not be able to respond to every one." This must be true because all four times I had problems and proceeded to contact them; all I got what I call the “Phil Collins treatment” as I received no reply at all - from any of the times I contacted them using their contact form! <lol>

Side Note: BTW, I totally agree with you regarding the fact that SourgeForge and SnapFiles are terrific sites to go to as well - but just to be on the safe side, I always come here to MG first! ;)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, robertbiferi...

To answer your question: if the file you downloaded is an executable file, then you should be able to run it and the toolbar will install. The same applies to an online installation. Make sure you completely close your browser and then restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

Be advised: there are separate versions of the Google Toolbar available for Firefox and for Internet Explorer...

I think most of your points are either inaccurate, exaggerated or have a touch of the fan boy them, but I respect your right to post them. :)

Ok I did get it from google and it is an .exe file.

It installed nice and it works just one thing?

The first thing I have is my address bar and under it is my menu bars you know it says file edit view tools.
Under this is were my google tool bar is.

I want to know if I can put it right next to my address bar because on the right side of the address bar it has all this room?

Thanks Sol... I appreciate that last part of your comment, at least... and I also respect you as a member who's posts more often; than 'not often' help lots of folks and with regards to your 'right' to post your points, as well...

However, attacking an individual in any forum by belittling another member's credibility or intentions or even integrity, instead of addressing the actual original question (or issues) in and of itself; is the oldest online form of false argument. When the individual posting a question or potential 'real' answer to a question in here is attacked (or perhaps even ridiculed just a bit...) – alternatively; with only disagreement itself, the civil discussion comes to a close.

Side Note: And perhaps, while speaking of the possibility of fan boy prejudiced points which are either 'inaccurate, exaggerated,' etc. (your words here): Questioning "why anyone would want to install a toolbar of any sort, especially a Google toolbar" is hardly a viable, legitimate or even anywhere-near appropriate answer/reply for the original thread poster's "How do I install it into my IE browser," initial inquiry... (thoughts anyone?)
