Getting router to login with credentials

    Hi,

So I am not sure what terminology to use, but I have a WRT54G that I want to connect to an Ethernet jack. When I connect the Ethernet to my computer, I login to the company network with my credentials. How can I use my router to create an access point to use my computer wirelessly (or use my phone, for example)? I need to somehow give the router/AP my credentials so that it can access the Internet.

I have the router set to use WPA2 and understand the possible risks of logging in and then broadcasting the signal; however the risks in my situation are minimal and I'm willing to take them. Is what I want to do possible?

    Hi askantik.
You do not need to get the router to do anything.
By using the wireless connection, all you are doing is eliminating the ethernet cable from the router to your comp/phone/wireless device.
If you are logging in by using a cable now, all you have to do is establish the wireless connection and then the same procedure for logging in is done wirelessly with no difference. The router just passes through the connection as if it came in by cable or wireless.
The WPA2 security only applies to the wireless signal from the comp to the router so it won't affect the logging in process.

You said this was at a company. You may need the Network Admin to allow the WRT54G to get an IP address. I would also suggest putting the Router in Access Point mode for your use. As a Router, it will assign you the subnet that it is set for (Default 192.168.1.x) instead of the subnet of the company which may prevent you from accessing their resources such as printers. As an Access Point, it will use the companies DHCP server to get you on the correct subnet.

Just in case, some companies are purposefully without wifi because there are always risks of unauthorized access.

I was assuming the OP was logging in from home to his company network.

    Your probably right.

I thought he was trying to connect the Router to his companies network to gain access for more of his devices.
