After selecting custom install, after removing partitions on my drive. windows prompts a message "windows cannot be installed to this disk. this computer's hardware may not support booting. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu". the OS in my flash drive is working properly because I've tried it on other PC's. I used WinSetup-1-0-beta7 to make my bootable usb.

    my old desktop specs:
    P4 1.86 ghz
    768mb ram
    30gb maxtor hdd
    128mb vga agp

sample edited image is provided. hope you can help me.thanks

There should be 2 partitions on any install. The main system and the boot partition. Your missing one. Windows SHOULD address this on install if you do it automatically. You selected custom install. Don't. Let the Windows install properly setup the partition for you.

Are your trying to install Windows 7 on a computer with just 768 MB of RAM?
MS sets the bar low and even 1GB is the bare minimum listed by them.

Personally, on that old a computer, I'd install XP.
2GB is the least amount of RAM that I'd try to comfortably run windows 7 on. It will run on 1GB but it will not be a good experience.

but i only have 2 options to select, upgrade and custom(advanced). custom installs new copy of windows, because I'm not going to upgrade and I've already deleted the partitions.:-D

im stuck at the image i've shown, i tried making partitions but still prompts the message.

can i make a main system and boot partition by myself? because windows wont proceed.

some said they can run win7 below 1gb of ram from what i have read on the net, with the aero style disabled. its an extra desktop here, its basically going to be use for browsing purposes only, play some music and movies maybe and im not going to install heavy programs with it. and i personally want to see how my old desktop will do with win7 installed in it.:-D

Again, I am not at your computer to do it so all I can tell you is that you format the partition under setup, then when you select the single parition that is left Windows should offer to set it up for you. If not, as plodr said it might be an incompatibility problem as it sounds like an old turd of a computer. With those specs I would make a killer bookend out of it. Forget Windows 7. Don't care what "someone" "somewhere" told you, it's a bad idea and you should have run a compatibility check on the machine first as I doubt you can fit Windows on a 30 GB drive.

Wish you luck but we are at at dead end helping you further, sorry :(

P.S I dont know where you got the idea that playing movies and games are low computer useage. Your video card with that ram won't get it done.
