Re-Indexing Vista folders!

Hello. I recently changed my administrator account name only to find out there is a mismatching of folders and data between my old user name and my new user name.

Is a re-indexing of the users folder recommended or perhaps an overall re-indexing of the entire drive? I thought a scandisk would correct such issues but apparently not.

Not only that but my Temporary Internet Files are getting scattered.......

 

The idea behind user names is that more than one user can use the computer and have a degree of privacy. So if you have created a new user for yourself that user will not have access to the files and folders of any other user. The computer has no idea that the two users are one and the same person.

If you simply intended to change your username then that can be done through Control Panel > User Accounts. You do not need to create a new account.

 

Yes I already knew that. I did NOT create another user account!

I had my hard disk changed and the technician created a generic administrator account to pre-install software. Then I decided to change the name of the SAME account to my name.

I am the only person who uses the laptop so I have no need to create multiple accounts or even use any passwords.

So what is the deal with re-indexing folders? Is it difficult and/or time consuming? I have never tried this and that is why I ask........
