printers refresh

Is it possible to create a batch script to refresh the printers in printers and faxes, I have a machine that keeps losing its printers usually once a day, they all go to unable to connect in printers and faxes, if I open the printers and faxes folder and hit F5 they all come back to ready and work fine.

I want to create a script to refresh these and then put it as a scheduled task to run every day, I'm thinking open the window (easy so far), refresh the window (unable to do this) close the window (have been told this is not possible in a .bat file). Any help would be appriciated, thanks.

 

Not quite sure but did you try to restart the spooler service?

Yeah tried to stop and restart print spool service but it doesn't bring them back, by going into the printers and faxes window and pressing f5 they come back, this machine has about 15 printers, one connected directly the others available over the network, jobs are routed to their appropriate printer automatically by the machine.

Will probably try to do it with a vbs script scheduled to run daily, as can't close the window easily in a .bat file. Just need to figure out how to use vbscript now.

To simulate key strokes to a window is the worst method I can think of rolleyes

I know not my preferred method but it will only be a temporary solution until I can get to the root cause of the problem, have it sorted with a .vbs for now, thanks for the links they were helpful.
