Computer won't boot after applying new Windows Updates

This is a Windows XP desktop. Wednesday evening Windows Update d/l several updates. I believe there were 19 total. After installation, instead of rebooting the computer I just shut it down for the night. This morning when I booted up the computer it got stuck and would not fully boot up. It was stuck on the HP Screen. The computer said it was loading Windows and doing the settings but then it was stuck, like I said at the HP screen. I first tried to do a last know good configuration but that didn't help. I then booted into Safe Mode with networking and was able to do a System Restore to the date before the Updates were installed and that worked and the computer booted up fine.

Am I right in thinking I still need to install the Updates from Windows Update? If so, am I supposed to install each update on at a time and reboot after each install to determine which update is causing the problem? If I find out that one of the critical updates is causing the problem, what then? Thanks:confused

 

What happens is when you install up dates it will ask you to restart after the downloads and installed.

Did you shut it down in the middle of a Update!!!!

That could cause issues in some updates.

No you don't have to install each update one bye one you can have it multi updates but there are some up dates that will only let you download one at a time.

No, I shut it down when the Window popped up saying the updates were done and the computer needed to be restarted for the updates to take effect.
