It seems to be quite a common problem. I'm running an Acer Aspire 4745G that was upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) almost a year ago.

I experienced the same thing before (about a day before this whole thing happened) when I updated my new antivirus program on the same PC. Of course, back then, I was able to use Startup Repair to restore it to a point before I updated my Antivirus.

However, now: the antivirus updated, I rebooted my PC and after the Windows loading screen, I get a blue screen with this message:

STOP: c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Of course, I checked if I could boot through Safe Mode (with Networking, with Command Prompt, and the normal Safe Mode), but none worked. So I went to the Startup Repair menu and to my surprise, I had no Restore Points.

So I resort to Startup Repair and it said:

Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

    Details:
    Problem Signature:
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200505
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 9
    Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

Then I go to Command Prompt to attempt to rebuild my boot configuration data and found my command prompt displaying this:

    X:\windows\system32>

Which was quite weird since I only had three partitions: the System Reserve, C:\ (where I originally installed my OS), and my back-up partition D:\

When I checked if my files were still intact, I found out that C:\ had been renamed to D:\ and D:\ to E:\. Now, my System Reserved Partition is named C:\

This kinda got me frustrated since I seem to have misplaced my Windows installation disk so as to run a repair install, so I need a bit of technical help, but I don't want to bring it back to the Acer Support Center since it took me a hell of a lot to get my laptop back to normal after they "fixed" it - malfunctioning WiFi antenna, Memory Card Reader problems... etc.

So please, if anyone can help me, I would very much appreciate it.

P.S. I can't actually do a disk format just yet since half of my manuscript is somewhere there without a back-up copy and my editor is going to kill me if I lose it.
