So, about a week or so ago, I started having all sorts of issues with my Outlook. I was getting errors shutting down and it wanted me to shut down some addin it said was causing it. I shut that down and there were still issues. I did all sorts of searching online and really couldn't find a fix for what was happening.

It got to the point where I couldn't even schedule a new calendar entry. With 2 teens, I need my calendar. rolleyes

I tried doing a repair (including with the disk). Nothing was working.

I was about ready to try uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling even though I read that that rarely fixes issues with the software.

Finally I decided to look at iCloud. If some of you haven't had the pleasurerolleyes, iCloud is an apple product for syncing your iphone to your computer and backing it up online. I quickly discovered that that was crashing every time I tried to do anything with it.

SO...after uninstalling all of iCloud and reinstalling, everything is now back up and running.

Just goes to show you that even if you are having issues with on Software app, it doesn't mean that's the problem. Nothing pointed to iCloud...none of the errors or anything.

Oh, have I ever mentioned the fact that I truly despise all things apple for Windows PCs. In my more paranoid moments, I believe they make sure their products don't play nice with windows.

Anyway...I was very proud of myself for fixing this.:)

iCloud - never heard of it. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for it in future though!

Nice fix Laura :major, Outlook can be a right pain on it's own, add in outside interference and it must have made it a nightmare.

Agree with the Apple products on Windows subplot too.

Yeah, iCloud is a wonderful product (note sarcasm yet again). You should see the amount of people online with issues...and not just when pairing it with Windows.

Since the errors were all for an Outlook installed Add-in, I didn't even think of iCloud being the problem. I decided to go through and disable the addins to see if any of them helped. I was completely unable to disable the icloud one....even making sure I was running Outlook as admin. That was my first 'hmmmm moment'.

Anyway, definitely make sure if you run across anyone with Outlook issues that you ask about iCloud.

    Thanks satrow.:)

iCloud is very good and while it has its negative points I think its a great product, Microsoft is a little behind the curve here but they will IMHO will have a superiour offering with Windows 8 as its inbuilt cloud tech is superb and for....

I can add a contact or calendar date to my Windows 7 Phone and it shows on my Windows 8 PC and vice versa.

I can add files via Skydrive and get them on multiple Windows 8 and Windows 7 PC as Skydrive Desktop is now available.

@Goldernskull.... seems that iCloud works ok for me with Firefox 15a1 and Windows 7 x64.

    Good troubleshooting Laura :)

Yep, Apple apps for P.C.'s = :crap, usually.

Good that you got things sorted out, Laura :cool.
Usually when I have mysterious software glitches that aren't a result of he said software, it is an Apple or Adobe P.O.S. causing it. rolleyes

Barry I agree with you on iOS apps for Windows PCs as iTunes while good is a nightmare for me and other friends in relation to iPhone, iPod uodates as the latest release never seems to install correctly, it needs a few revisions to said update to then install ok.

I also agree with you on Windows issues are normally 90%+ caused by 3rd party apps not playing friendly together.

iCloud is a fine app if it's working right. Sadly, if you look online for info...you will see that across the board, whether you have Windows or a Mac, there are an enormous amount of issues with it. I'm not sure what's going on with this. It's been out long enough that you'd think they'd have worked out the majority of the bugs.

I started with MobileMe (apple's original sync app) and I never had one issue with it. Then, I was forced to 'upgrade' to iCloud. It is definitely Not an install and go software. I'm fairly adept for the most part with software setup. I have to say, iCloud was not as intuitive as it should be when working with Outlook.

So, I'm more apt to go with Phantom's POS view. LOL Or at the very least, a necessary evil. Sometimes I really miss my Blackberry and the ease at which it syncs.

anyway.....this was more a thread for me to toot my own horn for actually solving this problem. lol...it was not an easy one to figure out. Usually the errors are a lot more accurate in saying what the issue is.

Well you tooted our HORN well very aptly Laura

I guess the thread migrated as they do to other issues off the original post, which I agree with many of the posts, some apps do not really meet our needs, just have to check each one out an decide on a personal basis.

I think those are the most perplexing and most aggravating types of problems. :( :confused :banghead :mad :cry
Haven't had a lot of experience with Apple software for Windows, but I know that there are often problems - sometimes serious.

People have come to Major Geeks forums for help after experiencing problems due to Apple apps with Windows.
There have been instances where iTunes has caused so much damage that the Operating System had to be reinstalled.

Probably, all of those applications were designed specifically for the Apple OS and later modified to run on Windows.
That kind of design process is often a recipe for disaster. :eek

It's a shame because the software is pretty good and I'm sure works well when it's running in the proper environment.

You should be proud. That was a tough nut to crack.
    You're a veteran now. :major

    Well done Laura:)

Its easy to forget the frustration when something doesn't work and you have absolutely no idea why,I sometimes think I miss those times then it happens and I don't.

I wonder if its because the last emotion is satisfaction in solving the problem,so will you recall this event fondly?

It was seriously frustrating. It started out minor and then got to the point where things weren't working at all.

    Thanks mjnc.:)

Are you saying that at some point you get so good that you know exactly what is wrong? I hope so, cause it would make my husbands life better if I wasn't obsessing for a few days over fixing something. :-D

A good question and I believe you're right. For me, and probably most here, the idea of giving up on a computer issue really doesn't come into my realm of thinking. So there is always an immense sense of satisfaction when it's done. At the time, do I want to be dealing with it? No. But I will remember the satisfaction more than the frustration.:)

I've honestly never had a computer problem that I couldn't solve, eventually. But I HAVE had many solutions to problems that I'm not happy about.

Software problems can be hella frustrating,I'm like Phantom there isn't a problem I haven't overcome, where overcome means Google and format!:-D
