Important to note I have already gone through the Malware Removal Forum and am Malware free! They recommended that if am still experiencing problems that I come to the Software Forum. Basically the 2 major issues I am having are:

    1. Programs I run are periodically unresponsive when trying to open them (including Task manager) in WIN7. i have to restart my laptop regularly to clear this issue, as often the screen just freezes.
    2. Google Chrome of late has been running slow and at times is unresponsive. A little box comes up giving me the option to kill open browser pages. I often get an open tab in Chrome displaying "This webpage is not available" too.

The latest thing is that I get a message in Chrome stating that Shockwave Flash has crashed and I have to restart the browser, to add insult to injury! Have checked the Plugins and I don't have Flash Player installed on the OS, so no conflict there. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome to no avail!

Please help me as my SAMSUNG Laptop (SAMSUNG Series 3 NP300E5A-A01DX) is only 3 months old!

Slow / unresponsive / crashing can also be caused by overheating; check temperatures and fans running correctly with SpeedFan.

If I disable Flash in Chrome will I have to install it on my OS? What are the implications when browsing if I disable it in the browser but don't install it on the OS?

Flash is NOT installed on the OS. It is browser specific.
I have two versions installed on my computers. One version is for Internet Explorer and the other is for other browsers (FireFox, Opera, Safari, etc). Disabling it in chrome does not uninstall it from Chrome.

Fire up Internet Explorer and go here
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
This will show you what version IE is using. If it is not up to date, click the Player Download Center link and get the newest version for IE.

Thanks, I only use Chrome. If I disable Flash in Chrome though, I won't be able to use some web applications / you tube etc though will I? That is why whether I should install it on the OS?

I will give it a whirl tonight thanks. I really don't think its an overheating problem though, as I don’t hear the fan come on, so either its very quiet, it doesn’t need to or its broken. But my laptop never seems to get hot at all when I have it on my lap, on the table, on the sofa or where ever.

Flash is NOT installed for the OS. Even though you only use Chrome, you do have to keep flash updated for Internet Explorer too. (It gets updated because of security issues. Flash is a major vector for nasty things to get into your computer. That's why I have mine turned off for almost every site. If I need it, I turn it on.)
So please take the time to go to the adobe page I linked to, find out what version you are running and update it in Internet Explorer.

Ok, I have disabled Flash in Chrome, though I will have to turn it on again whenever I use You Tube which is a little annoying.

Have also updated the IE Flash to latest version but I never use IE, so how to I disable this?

Ok this is now running in the background on default settings, do I need to configure it to specific settings?

Sorry, I don't run IE so I have not disabled anything in it. I let the default settings stand.

A big thanks to everybody for your help so far on this :)

So, just to summarise, I have so far done the following:

    1. Installed SpeedFan and have it running in the background with default settings.
    2. I have been enabling and disabling Flash in Chrome, as required.
    3. I now have the latest version of Flash for IE installed.

    That's it. My questions are:
    1. For SpeedFan, do I need to configure it in anyway from default settings?
    2. For Chrome, does the Flash get automatically updated, and when I don't need Flash are you guys recommending I have it disabled right?
    3. I never use IE, but should I still manually check frequently to make sure I always have an up to date version of Flash?

I mean I am still getting some of the issues I previously described, so is there anything else I need to do?

I would check 'Automatic fan speed' on the Readings tab.

In Chrome, Flash Player is updated when a new Chrome version is installed. I don't know if it will remain disabled.

If you have Flash Player 11.2 or higher installed, the automatic background update will automatically keep it updated.

Do you mean the Windows Update?

No, not the windows update. Flash has it's own updater running.
Go to Control Panel, you will see a Flash Player icon. Click on that. Click on the Advanced tab and you can see the update information.

I have done that, thanks. I am on >11.2.

So back to Chrome, are you saying only enable the built in Flash when I need it?

Also back to the issues I am having. Again this arfo, when going to Java through the Control Panel, to check my Java settings, and when loading IE I had problems. Java took for ever in a day to load. When I loaded IE to go and check my version, it crashed first time. Also programs have periodically been taking ages to load. I know this not Malware. I now know that is not to do with fan settings and/or Flash. So what do I do now please?

And just now tried to load Chrome and it wouldn't start had to reboot!

Its all happening tonight! Tried to go to Advanced Performance Tools to generate a system health report and when loading up the program it locked up. I tried to open task manager and got an error message and then a black screen appeared for a while before I then had to restart the machine. Its a mess.

If you get error messages, please write them down. The more info we have, the more we can help.

If you start IE without add-ons [Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)] does it also take a long time? If not, then maybe it's a good idea to remove / disable some add-ons.

Right, firstly I never used IE until you guys mentioned updating Flash. Also I only ever got the one error message, the remainder of the problems is, as I have detailed.

This is becoming a major problem for me now, so I am thinking rebuild the laptop from scratch using Samsung Recovery Solution, unless you guys know of any freeware that maybe able to help me first? Can I run anything that will identify the issues I am having performance wise, and attempt to clean them up?

Somebody I know suggested it could be Zonealarm causing issues.

This might indicate a hardware problem.

Is the laptop still under warranty?
If you use recovery, you go back to the way the computer was when it left the factory so be sure if you have any data you want that it is stored off the laptop.

If the freezing occurs on a restore/recovery then it could be hardwrae.

Hey Plodr, yes think it is.
Right I used Samsung recovery and have completely rebuilt the laptop from scratch. All appears ok, though a few programs took a while to settle down.

Question about Zonealarm, is it safe to let the DefeneseNet make all the decisions, get minimal alerts and just sit back? I have been using ZA for years and is by far the best, especially to protect outbound connections, compared to Windows Firewall, even though I'm behind a router. Reason I ask is a lot of programs have allow outbound and inbound connections ticked. The main point here is I don't want to allow anything to act as a server, e.g. Skype. You used to be able to control this in ZA in the old days. Maybe its automatic now?

Also one thing I noticed is a lot of randomly named .exe's appearing on the list of ZA programs at first, in the Windows Live folder / settings / temp folder. When I went to check they weren't there though. Maybe something and nothing (I had show hidden files enabled too). So I reset the ZA Firewall to default and slammed DefeneseNet into automatic, which also stopped a lot of suspicious activity alerts appearing.

Another thing ZA has also been throwing up Suspicious behaviour alerts for quite few programs, e.g. Malware Bytes, Speed Fan telling me that they are trying to load the driver WINSYSDIR\program name.sys

I haven't run a newer version of ZA since it was purchased by Checkpoint. (I run v 4.5.594 in Windows 2K computers and one XP computer)
I let Win 7's built in Firewall do its thing. In addition I run MS Security Essentials and the paid version of Malwarebytes to protect me.
Additionally I have installed the passive program, SpywareBlaster, to prevent lots of unwanted items to even get into the computer.
