    Hey everyone,

I want to find out if anyone can tell me if I can use the above router as a wireless hub.

I did some research and it seems that it is possible but I found different ideas and other and rather then try something I find on the net I decided to post it here since this forum has always resulted in great outcomes.

I have a wireless hub made by iogear but since upgrading to windows 7 the hub is not supported in windows 7.

Rather than buying one I thought maybe this extra router I have will work.

With my move I had to change to clear wiring ISP because nothing else is offered here.

Unfortunately the clear wire router does not have usb capabilities and most of my devices are usb and my desktop is not wireless wireless.

I could buy another wireless hub or or a wireless card for my desktop but what the hell save some money.

Maybe someone can just post a link to a process that can make this work.

I haven't found anything on the internet that was consistent so I am not sure which way to turn for the info.

What is the access IP for the Clear wire router?
What is the access IP for the Actiontec?

If they are the same, it would be a headache and not worth the time and trouble.

If they are different, I will supply instructions.

I would imagine they are NOT.

Basically the actiontec router was used in one location. Upon moving to my current location I found that no major provider offered internet here.

After some research I found clearwire but it had to be their router.

I guess a router saves the IP address it was previously used? I am confused about the question.

Did I answer the question correctly,?

Just confused why they would have the same IP address? I don't want to actually use it to access the internet but use it like a wireless hub so I can access my network through it.

Just trying to get my wireless computers to connect to the rest of the network.

No. When you set up a router, you type something like 192.168.1.1. into the browser's address bar. The IP is set up by the hardware manufacturer and has no bearing on where in the world the router is located. It depends on the hardware brand.

You need to know how to access the router set up to change settings. If you can not get into the setting for each router, you can not them use two routers together - you will not be able to get on the internet with devices attached to the 2nd router until you turn of DHCP.

    Could I use...

    start.....run
    cmd: ipconfig

To get the ip from the router

Let me plug it all in and see what I can find.

    Thanks.

    It worked! :)

Ok so I am now in the Admin and in advanced setting I can see where I can turn Off DHCP.

Figured that is far as I safely can go and figured I would now ask what next.

BTW....the IP is not the same as my clearwire router.

    1) Unplug the PC from the network and plug it into one of the numbered
ports on the Actiontec router. The router is not plugged into the
    network.

    2) Using a browser, type in the IP.

    3) In the router's web utility on the Setup tab, click the Disable
    DHCP radio button.

    4) For the Internet Connection Type, select Automatic Configuration -
    DHCP.

    5) Set the Router IP Address - Local IP Address to a value that is
part of the SBS subnet but outside the range it dynamically assigns,
(example 192.168.1.254 ) If the Actiontec doesn't use 192.168.1 1 then do not select that value.

    6) Click Save Settings.

    7) Connect the network cable coming from the 1st router to one of the numbered ports on the wireless router, not to the WAN port.

    8) Configure the SSID and wireless security settings on both the
    router and the PC.

    9) Unplug the cable between the PC and the 2nd router.

    10) The PC should connect to the 1st router and from there to the server.

I am confused by this setting.

I imagine you mean the clearwire sbs subnet.

    The IPv4 Address is....192.168.15.101
    Default Gateway.........192.168.15.1

Am I correct to say anything between those?

No - do not change the clearwire router if that is the one you will be using as your router.

You do the changes to the "router" you DO NOT want to use as a router but want to use as a switch.

I guess my question is how do I know what values SBS subnet assigns outside the range dynamically.

Any value that isn't the default value?

Sorry never did anything with this stuff so I have no foundation.

I figured I would just take a shot.

The router lan-ip is 192.168.0.1....I entered 192.168.0.254 to see if it worked.

It now wont let me back into the router with that setting.

I reset it tried another number and same thing.

You don't want to use the router as a router - you want to use it as a switch so there is no reason after making the changes that you need to go back into that router. (A switch is hooked up and no configuration is ever done).

Hook the router that is no longer a router into one of the LAN ports of your real router and just use it as extra ports.

    Sorry...

I thought this step required me to go back into the router.

Well let me give it a go and I will post back if I have any trouble.

    Once again thank you.

OK...I didn't get it to work so I decided I would do us both a favor and describe what I am doing visually because some of the terminology isn't second nature to me.

Ok the first thing I do is set-up the wireless because once the IP Address is changed I can't get back into the router

I did nothing with the WEP encryption but would like your advice.

    http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/element9913/th_capture-20120623-225554.png

    Turn off DHCP

    http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/element9913/th_capture-20120623-224617.png

    Change the IP Address Value

    http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/element9913/th_capture-20120623-224728.png

    Save and Restart

Then when I hook it up to clearwire this the only place I can think that I need to change.

Well it seems I got it working....I think?

Turns out it really didn't need an reconfiguring following step 7.

Now I just to do some testing and play around and will post back here.
