I was using Mcafee but my subscription expired so now i need some new firewall that gave me similar protection like Mcafee.

What are some good free ones?

I just got this is seems pretty simple and good.

However is it normal that it turns off my windows firewall?

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Avast_Free_Edition_d1968.html Just use the Anti-Virus here, do a custom install, turn down Chrome, unchecked cloud service etc. Great offline scanner, can also be run with no popups when updated and no ads. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Online_Armor_Free_d4872.html Don't run this firewall as of late, but was always reliable and thorough. Yes it is normal, one firewall at a time. Some AV software can now be run with another AV though... http://majorgeeks.com/Emsisoft_Anti-Malware_d172.html

    Another vote for Avast.

Pretty effective, nice interface and easy to use.

During the install process, you can choose Not to install some of the Real Time Shields if you do not need them,
like the P2P and IM (Instant Messaging) shields.

Malwarebytes is NOT a firewall. It prevents you from going to malicious sites, in the paid version only.

I'll give another vote to Avast it is a good program and don't flag up many negatives infections. Firewall I would go for zonealarm.

    My .02 for a safe set-up:

Spyware Blaster, Malwarebytes and either the free security suites from Comodo or Outpost. And common-sense surfing, of course.
