Hi, Im new here so I appologise if im in the wrong place.

My CPU reads at 100% if I try to run any programs. most of the time crashing the system.

When nothing is running explorer uses at least 50% but upto 75%, but its only been the last month or so, no new programs installed.

For years now I have found a solution to all my computer problems on this site and i'm hoping that someone can help me with this little doozy. cos I can't find an answer anywhere else on the forum.

    Hi!

FWIW, the OP is likely talking about explorer.exe.

However, it's best to troubleshoot these issues using Process Explorer and check the stacks...

    Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply and I will look over it!

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

As Gondenskull said, more info. on your system (CPU, version of Windows, anti-virus software installed, etc.) would be helpful; however here are a few places to start.

    * Download, install and run the latest copy of Malware Bytes and the latest Malware Bytes Database. If it shows infections, go to the Malware Removal forum for further tips and removal instructions.

    * Next, download and run Advanced System Care's deep scan. This will check and repair issues including registry errors and fragmented files.

    * If the system is free of viruses and malware, is there a point in Windows System Restore that is a date/time before the problem started? If yes, System Restore may solve the problem.

*Are all fans (especially the one on the CPU) working properly? If not, it may be an overheating issue.

    * If all of these fail, my suspicion is a failing hard drive. This can be a tricky one to diagnose, as SMART tests and short drive self tests (DSTs) often miss this type of problem. If you are at this point, be sure to back up your data ASAP. Unfortunately, the only way to test this is with a known good hard drive and a fresh install of Windows.

    Hope these tips help. :)

Does not sound like a Failing HD sounds like malware or a virus.Failing HD would not make the CPU run at 100% but i could be wrong never had it happen.

I would start over on the malware forums.

    I'm running windows vista (unfortunately),

    Avira antivirus,
    Advanced system care pro,

Have run full scans on both and nothing found.

Only thing's i've noticed are that if cpu is running at 100% ocasionally get a brieff buzz from insind system but I can't figure out where its coming from. From importantly if system goes to sleep it won't start up again unless I unplug machine, It tries to restart and wont untill i've unpluged and restarted a dozen or more times. I just leave the system running now.

Just as a by the by how do I put in an avatar.

My apologies there. That was a canned speech of mine. I been working on reforming my links. Bear with me, please! ;)

Were you able to run Process Explorer? It would be good to get a capture on explorer.exe

I'd say your culprit lies with the fact that you are running two anti-malware programs at the same time:

    Avira Antivir
    IObit Malware Fighter

Disable or remove one of them. It's only a good idea to run one antivirus program at a time. Keep Avira active for best results!

Tell me how this works for you!

  13. Goldenskull

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

    Remove these two

    Avira Antivir
    IObit Malware Fighter

And if your willing to spend a little money for protection.
Get AVG internet Security with Firewall.
And a Life Sub of malwarebytes.

AVG License: Shareware $54.99 a year worth the money.
    http://majorgeeks.com/AVG_Internet_Security__d5818.html

Malwarebytes License: Shareware $24.95 All so worth the money this is a Life Sub
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756

    I would get these two.

And then Get rid of the Iobit malware fighter.ACS all ready has a malware scanner installed
    Advance System care .
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5927

    Then get
    CCleaner
    http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Standard_d5125.html

    Same setup on my computer.

Sounds to me that you might have a bad fan open your case and listen and look to see if each fan is running. And is your Computer getting hot at all.

I'm not going to argue here, but Avira Free would be a lot better than any AVG product. They have failed in tests and reviews.

I have example one and two for proof of concept.

It's a mess trying to get rid of Avira completely on a system, because even after uninstall, remnants remain. No point in the hassle, TBH.

Running computer with case open, can definately hear buzzing/rasping sound more clearly but both the processor fan and main system fan apear to be running. However the machine is certainly feeling very warm to the touch.

Used to use malwarebytes but it didn't seem to find everything, where as avira seemed to find it all a lot faster.

Iorbit was on Advaced system care, don't entirely know how to stop it running without switching off Advanced system care (which I have found to be most helpfull).

Don't know if it has to run with it or not, but if you can tell me how to deactivate it I'm more than happy to give it a try.

By the way thanks all for all the help so far. at the verry least I can now see exactly what my system is doing, and if I can switch off iorbit just maybe have a slightly faster machine.

Any sugestion as to where to chat about building a new system. or how to put up an avatar.

    Download Speedfan
(The download link is in the first line of the second paragraph), and
install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the
    information it shows, please.

Speed Fan does not work Just letting you know.
Speed Fan Temps are not accurate

If you want a accurate Temp reading Use Speccy
    http://majorgeeks.com/Speccy_d6358.html

And a good way to shut off Iobit in memory is to do this.

    Go to Start

    Then settings

    Then Control Panel

Then In Control panel Look for Performance and main and click

Then in Performance and main click on Administrative Tools

Then in Administrative Tools Click on Services

Then in the Services App look for Advance System care Service 5

Then Double click on it.In Start up type Disable it.Then in Service Status click on Stop if it is running

This will stop the program from poping up in the Task manager at windows load but you will be able to use the program.

AVG Does Work as long as it is setup right.I rarely get any malware or virus with my setup pretty much the only thing i get now is cookies.

That is way i recommend AVG internet security Be cause the AVG firewall blocks most of the stuff all ready.

And i can give easy instructions on how to remove Avira.

    Hi thanks again.

CPU usage is down to around 9 - 13%

    I orbit disabled.

Tried to get your speccy link goldenskull but just get a title bar and green screen, sorry.

Got speedfan and these are the readings.

    Fan1 = 3140rpm, Fan2= 1250rpm
    GPU= 87c, Temp1= 51c, Temp2= 48c, Temp3= 23c
    HD0= 45c, Temp1= 48c, Temp2= 57c,

I'm afraid I have no idea which fan is which though.

  21. DragonMaster Jay

    DragonMaster Jay Private E-2

Those fan speeds are in top shape! Nice, cool readings. Did the usage drop after IObit products were disabled? :drool

Okay Goldenskull, don't take the following the wrong way here...

I find that SpeedFan is updated (software updates) often and have done comparisons with Speccy among other tools. I also realize that SpeedFan is recognized by most IT experts/troubleshooters, so I'm not ready to stop using it. I think good, verified, recommended tools are the best to use to fight these types of issues with computers.

Did not say that AVG doesn't work, however, for maximum protection against malware (as I test malware on a hobby basis), AVG does not cut it. It's as if they're acting like Norton used to act back before they got acquired by Symantec.

    Sorry about the absence.
