I'm guessing you're very young from all your posts, hence the lack of patience & understanding. (and spelling)

I just want to throw this out there, just because you have had something work well for you in your situation, doesn't mean theres not something better/else out there, I constantly get hit in the face with this myself.

Seriously, arguing just makes you die earlier. If folks don't want to listen, just let them suffer under their own rod for their back, so to speak. ~ Works for me, usually).;)

Hi! I used to be just like you, or similar anyway. I thought my knowledge was top. But, I found out this was wrong, when people in the security community kept trying to get my attention and shut me up. I still persisted on arguing and making things worse.

Recently, I asked the few people who were still mad at me, after 3 years, and they told me the reasons. I apologized, because I knew that the reason they were treating me like that was because of my own attitude and pride, not theirs.

Now, granted they had attitude problems too, which is why they argued back, but still, both of us weren't right - which is why I was the first to apologize.

Just because you're interested in security and claim to have tested so much, does not make you a specialist at security. It took me 8 hard months of constant training in security. Sadly, I couldn't go through a malware school because of my attitude. Instead, I was pulled through training where I was taught to behave. Once that happened, I knew that it would be the work I actually put it and keeping my mouth shut, that people would finally respect me.

Today, I am the manager of a malware removal school, a helper on a few forums, and the leader of a group of malware removers. I didn't get this way by myself. Others helped me, because I shut my mouth and allowed them to teach me and make my helping worthwhile.

I quickly became a website manager on one help site, only because I continued to put the work in day in and day out! I was respected, trusted, and encouraged to do well.

Being blinded by pride is an easy thing to happen. When you are, you have an attitude problem, you don't want to learn, and you think you know it all. It took me quite a while to realize why some people treated me the way they did.

Don't ever push your title. I called myself malware expert for a long time, and continued to be disrespected from people that got on my back 3 years ago. I removed the title, and just continued doing my good work.

What I find that people love most is the acceptance of feedback, the encouragement of everyday coolness, and having a good attitude all the time!

Some of these times where you claim people argue with you are not their own doing, but maybe it's your own doing.

When people who've been in the field for a long time decide to comment on something, and you want to question it, maybe discuss it in a different way, or do the research yourself.

I'm all about research. Most of the time, I do not answer a tech support topic without thorough research, so that way I get everything correct.

If I go to recommend antivirus software, I look at the latest trends and tests. Check this out: http://www.av-comparatives.org (link not available right now, server down)

Once you know the latest trends, you can make better recommended choices, and be able to back up your point-of-view.

Hope these points help you realize the way people treat you, how you treat others, and what people expect out of those that want to help on forums.

Don't argue and learn to have tollerance and walk away or at least defuse the situation and this can just be a simple as saying "what would you like to happen to resolve the issue" turn the tables so to speak on the other party.

Never found that confrontation vs confrontation works, smart replies do.

As bad as this sounds, your post usually goes beyond the length to hold my interest much. However, I read the whole thing and have to say I commend you for learning from your mistakes. I have seen so often (on this forum), those who come in telling everyone else they are wrong because they have a different opinion that they insist is the only right opinion and everyone else is wrong. There are usually multiple fixes for computers and many different ways to do things. I can't stand seeing the egos come into play that allows knowledgeable people to behave like 5 year olds.

    A good post by you.

Not of late Barry if you listen to my convesations with works IT or Admin depts! :-D

But yes conflict never resolves anything, need to be smart and turn the tables to your advantage in a situation. But always write down or make note of any conversations and steps you have taken to resolve the issue.
