can someone point me to a SURE tool or method for converting outlook express .dbx files to something useful? eml? .pst? something for thunderbird? something for gmail/webmail????

thanks... searched all over and not happening yet. Thunderbird has a builtin tool [failed] and an extension/add-on specifically for this, neither works.

may try on a diff clean system- I tried it by setting up a sterile user account on the affected xp machine, but instead of allowing me to point the fresh live mail install to the right folder, it just created something. then I could not find any tools in Live Mail to try to import anything different. did I miss something?

I copied all the .dbx files and took them with me so I could try on diff systems that don't have [to my knowledge] any email clients on them at all.

is there not just a converter that can flat file them or change them to eml or ?????
I mean, if Live Mail succeeds, then what?

just tried it tgell. no go. when I have a minute I'll post some images.
the files are good: last updated/used this past friday 7/6; the inbox has 205MB of data in it - I pulled it up in txt editor and can read some of the headers though it was gagging on the filesize, but the program returns "contains no messages". :cry
tried the -eml option with same result; wash-rinse-repeat.
    no worky

ok, same as before, which has me thinking I'm looking at the cause incorrectly. the Viewer, as others, returns 'no messages' from the biggest of the folders.

is this a lock? can the individual file folders [i.e. "Sent.dbx", "Inbox.dbx"] be locked somehow?

If I can remember correctly, it was possible to have multiple OE accounts and attach a password to each but I do not know if this could be the problem.

    Solved!
    finally.

tried a bunch of other things late yesterday and this a.m.... nada. even setup a brand new virgin xp mule and moved all the files in there under fresh acct.
but UNDBX saved der day! when all else could not read/crack/hack, it did.

Thanks for pointing out that program. And it is only 45KB.
