Way does it take 5 times longer for windows 7 to install its updates.

Any way to fix this issue.

Although I have certainly heard about this problem from many, many other users; I have never experienced 'slow Windows updates' with either of the two Windows 7 computers that I use at home.

It may be because I happen to have an extremely fast internet connection (usually up to 35-45MBs) and it may be that I also have both of my computers set to 'automatic updates' whenever they become available.

Not having the computer set for 'automatic Windows updates' can cause the necessary (and optional) updates to 'add up' over time and this can really slow down the process when the user finally tries to update them.

I agree with the previous poster; setting your computer to update at a time when you are not using the computer might help especially if you have a slow internet connection; as some of these updates are 100s of MBs.

For anyone using Windows 7 who cannot update correctly; you may also try the Windows Update Troubleshooter to check what is causing the issue. Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

Users having trouble downloading updates might also try to 'reset' by going to the following link: How do I reset Windows Update components?

Side Note: When I was using Windows XP on my home computers; just the opposite was true for me, as the Windows Updates would constantly either fail or take forever to upload correctly.

My windows updates downloads are just fine its the Install when you have to restart the computer and come to that blue update page.

Oh, sorry about the mix-up, Goldenskull... With regards to the change in the "Windows Update process" I can remember seeing an online video conference about this subject quite a while back; when Windows 7 first came out (I believe it was around mid to late 2009). Part of the conference was about those new annoying Windows 7 Update related messages; especially the one that would first restart your computer and then slowly finish installing important updates onto Windows 7 (unlike XP) which would now often not be completed until immediately after the restart.

    These words would then appear...
(Heres the pic of that 'post-restart' update process):

The person who spoke about it on that video conference said that Microsoft decided to change the way Windows Updates were installed; entirely completing them only after the restart of the computer; instead of before as XP accomplished this task. The reason that they did this change was evidently because so many users would become impatient with Windows XP updates; which were always installed immediately after the updates were downloaded and then completely installed BEFORE the restart. And then these impatient users would get aggravated while waiting and consequently force a restart; prior to the Windows update installation process was completed and this was causing blue screens and/or numerous other related problems during as well as after the update process.

So when they were creating the new Win 7 OS, they then decided on the post-reboot installation of updates with the 'warning' figuring there was less of a chance of people forcing the restart, with their power button.

I do not know if there is a verified workaround; but I will certainly search around the web and see if I can find any way to alleviate (or at least perhaps 'speed up') this process for you Goldenskull. ;)
