My computer somehow has gotten into a state where it boots up into the BIOS and then to windows XP splash screen. Then cylcels back to booting up to the BIOs and then back to the XP splash screen over and over. Please help!

Also, I tried to boot to safe-mode and a dialogue box pops up and says "The system is not fully installed. Please run setup again." I got to much valuable info (pictures etc.) and do not want to lose them.

Do you have the install CD? I might try a repair install. Did you by any chance just finish Windows Updates?

You have to reinstall windows as the installed windows has corrupted. Do you have windows disc handy?

If you have a bootable CD, like Ultimate Boot CD or Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
you can get to your pictures and stuff and copy them to another partition or to an external hard drive or thumb drive.

Sounds like you have a corrupted master boot record. Before a full reinstall of windows i would try and fix the MBR, you will need a windows CD.

    • Boot from CD.
    • Let windows load the files for install.
    • Press R at the welcome to setup page, to enter the recovery console
    • Select the window installation (probably 1) then press enter
    • Enter the administrator password
    • When you are in type "fixmbr" (no quotes) press enter.
    • Let it finish then reboot from HDD this should let you boot again propery

    Hope this helps

    Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for all your replies.

The issue seems to be fixed. Problem is not sure how. I have two bootable HDD connected to motherboard. I replaced my first c: drive with another bigger HDD a while ago. This actually turned into a belssing in disguise when my new C: drive became infected and I was not able to boot. I was was able to switch boot drives and disinfect my new drive.

I decided to try the same thing with this issue. That is, switch boot drives via BIOS settings. MY BIOS has cryptic drive names and I wasn't sure what was my current boot drive. I assumed the default was my current boot drive so I tried my other 3 drives. I still had the cyclic rebooting. I then decided to try to try the default drive and it booted!

This really strange, almost think somehow my boot drive had somehow changed to a non-bootable drive...I don't know how that would have happened.

Anyways, I have not tried to reboot yet and I am in the process of backing everything up on my boot drive.
