"SD" Card..?

So, this little black SD, "thing" has been in my Asus notebook since I got it..partially popping-out of the left-front side every-so-often, from time-to-time, whenever my hand brushed-up against it too direct/firm. I have always simply pushed it back in, and gone about my business... rolleyes

So, it popped-out just now again, only this time, I went ahead and extracted the thing . . . looked at it, and immediately decided to put it back in, only this time I cannot seem to get it to go in...? There seems to be some sort of little white plastic part in the slot that has moved in the path, which is "blocking" the card from inserting. :(

    Anyone have any ideas? :confused

    Thanks in advance,
    glenn...
PS - Irritatingly enough, I'm not even exactly sure what to "DO" with an SD Card!?!

The black thingy is simply a place holder to keep dust out of the sd slot.

I have six sdhc cards and placed movies in avi on them. Since my netbook doesn't have an internal optical drive, the cards allow me to take my movies with me instead of dragging along movie DVDs and my external DVD burner.

The white plastic part is probably just a gate that should move out of the way, is the black SD "thing" (dummy card) upside down or back to front maybe? The end with the cut off corner goes in first
If it's not too much trouble (doesn't keep popping out) then having an SD or SDHC card inserted all the time can be handy if you work with documents etc.
Use a backup program to backup your important documents to the SD or SDHC card whenever you make changes, if there is a crash or worse you won't lose your latest changes

    I use FreeFileSync

    Karen's Replicator is also popular

EXCELLENT that you would know this (now that I've taken a 2nd look at the "thingy"), and excellent info also about not having to drag-along peripherals but wouldn't it be best to keep something (such as a thingy) plugged into the slot, to help keep dust/debris out, please?

MadMal thank you for this, and yes, I agree that the white plastic part is some sort of "gate", and also yes, I have been attempting to put the dummy card back in exactly (in the same direction/same side up) as it came out...but, well....this is just extremely odd, I must say.

And yes once more...next chance I get I will certainly look more into this - thank you both again!

If you have available a small flat-head screwdriver (or similar object) attempt to very gently move the gate up/down/in to see if it will move. Be very careful not to push the screwdriver in too far and make sure to be gentle as there are pins inside there that can be damaged easily.
