Been a while since I had to have Fred put down. Am ready for a new pup, been looking around some. I think I found one, half Lab, half Doberman. Interesting mix. I found them on Craig's List free section, called them, and should go see the pups Sunday.

Looking forward to and dreading 'puppy hell'. :-D

Interesting mix, is an understatement. Should make for a loyal friend and guardian though. Will it be a short dobie or a tall lab? And which way will the ears go?

Post Pic(s) after you get that pup home.

Wow, that second pic shows some long ears. Also looks like they have a bit of German Short Hair Pointer in them. But they are all good looking. Sharp eyed and alert.

Speaking of which I have to take my two out for their walk. They're shoving my chair around.:-D

Originally 9 pups, 8 now, I want the one looking forward with the big old ears. But, is a 2 way street, the dogs have a choice also.

I was not prepared for the rush of emotion when I dug out Fred's old food and water bowl.

I think Fred would approve. ;)

The one looking forward in which pic? Yep it's a two way street but they will sense that you have their best interest at heart. Yeah, Fred would approve. I like to think they will be by our side again in the future. Who knows? But one can hope.

May be looking at this in the future.

Awesome. They'll sit in the bushes, leap out, beat the ducks to death, and drag them back.

    Meet Maxwell F. Dog. :-D

Max for short, MF when he does not behave. :-D This little dude is going to be a handful. Mom was an albino Doberman, Dad was a Lab.

I tell you, I love a short haired dog... So much easier to bathe. Hard to get a picture of him though, will get some better ones later.

Awwww, MF is adorable! Looks like he's going to be a big dog too, good thing both labs and dobermans are sweet-natured.

I'm sure Fred heartily approves, since it's a lab mix. :)

Little man is doing great! Likes baths, does not care if I clean his ears, loves his crate, and house training is going most excellent for a dog in a new home.

Fred - That is an adorable dog. Just looking at the size of his paws you know he's going to be a big one - plenty of room to fill. ;)

    Enjoy.

OBTW - we had a black lab/shepherd mix for 12 years, I believe, and we had to put him down a few days before Christmas two years ago. That was hard.

I rarely hunt Gloozit. Well, I hunt often, but it is at the grocery store. ;) Nothing wrong with hunting, just not for me.

NRA? I am a member, not sure if they have memberships for dogs. :-D

Took Max to the Vet today, $112 later he has started all his shots and such. 13.25#, I bet he will be a lot more when I take him back in 3 weeks, little dude eats like crazy.

Little guy is a trip. Full of puppy energy, loves to climb and crawl behind chairs and such. But, you put him in your lap, poof he goes to sleep. I will need to grow a much bigger lap. :-D

That's the biggest side-benefit I found from having puppy-Mimsy. At eight months she's calmed down a bit, but she still has the bouncing all-enthustiastic sheer joy in everything in life around her, and that's infectious. It's hard to be unhappy when you come home from work and you're met at the door by someone who's so happy to see you... :cloud9

I'm still a cat person! I'm still a cat person and not a dog person! Not a dog person! :crybaby

Yikes. Yeah, our all-lab started out at 25lbs at the ripe old age of 12 weeks. She is now 65lbs and nowhere near done growing.

I'd post new pictures, but she's camera-shy. Runs in terror from the noise and evil flashing light. :(

A suggestion, if I may? Take the cap off the bottle before you give them to him.... we learned that the hard way, when we realized that when puppy-Mimsy chews on the cap-end of a bottle, the top gets crunched up and the cap comes loose. She keeps it in her mouth, gnawing happily like it's a Willy Wonka Gob Stopper. She almost swallowed a few before we figured out how she got them off, and we've started removing them before giving her the bottle.

Performing a Heimlich maneuver on a panicking puppy who's choking on a bottle cap is no fun. Trust me. Don't wait to find out on your own.

  28. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Will do Mimsy, thanks for the heads up. So far, he has just flattened the bottles.

    Off to remove caps... :major

edit: He never saw me do it. :-D

Max is a handsome little man. I love the picture above- with a belly full of food.
I envy you Fred, in the sense each time I see a puppy- I want a new one. Unfortunately at least two of my dogs, will not want to share my attention with a newbie infringing. :(

Fred, your love for doggies is obvious. You're both lucky to have each other. :)

    Cheers..

We had a lab that was overweight. We put her on a diet, and one day we returned home from church to find an empty Oreo wrapper on the kitchen floor. Yep, she had eaten a WHOLE package of cookies!

Well, you were starving the poor dog Boom! :-D

Gloozit, the Vet estimated 13 weeks, don't really know. He was 13# last Monday. He has grown since, his collar was so loose last week it would slide off, now I can only get a couple of fingers in it. Will have to loosen it up, or put the bigger collar on him. Max tears up about one water bottle a day, no fear of noise for him. :cool

Beautiful dog! Black haired dogs are the prettiest dogs in my opinion (with white hair coming in a close second).

My dream dog is a Siberian Husky, then it can pull be around on my longboard :cool

Beautiful dog. Mine was snow white. What are you feeding Max? :)

A little while back I did read something about the age of dogs:

1st 2 years equal 14 years in human comparison (2x7 yrs)
After that each year equals 5 human years.

Love the Husky dogs, but they are not for me. Feeding Max Purina Puppy Chow, with the odd bit of couch, blanket, and whatever else he finds... :-D

Must be really delicious judging by the looks of his belly. Does he like your shoes?

I used to get my doggie once in a while some rawhide shaped like a doughnut and she would carry it around her nose and mouth. Was easy for her being a shih-tzu .... it looked ever so funny. Too bad I never thought about getting a pic of it. :(

  36. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

My parents have a shih-tzu. Am taking Max over for a another visit. The shih-tzu keeps on messing with Max, is funny.

He likes my shoes, but is not too bad about chewing on stuff. So far.. ;)

Now you need to take the next step: Get Max one of those hard plastic kiddie pools for your backyard, and help him get in touch with his inner lab. He's half way there already... he likes baths. :)

  38. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Well, he loves showers (container of water dumped on him). No webbed feet, and no much Lab personality in this one. Lots of fun, love the little guy. :-D

    Kiddie pool? Not happening. :cool

But they're so much fun! :-D Not to mention, a really easy way to trick the dog into cooling herself down and avoid heat stroke when it's 115F outside...

Yes, tiny little puppy-Mimsy got bigger. :)

Aww, cute dog Mimsy! Max is a house dog, does not really know what hot is. :-D

  42. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

    She's adorable. :)

Puppy-Mimsy spends at least a few hours every day in our fenced backyard, since I leave for work every day and my better half actually needs to get work done working from home. Though unless he's on an important conference call he keeps her in the house with him, particularly with how hot it gets outside in the summer months. Poor puppy-Mimsy has thick black fur, and even though she's smart enough to huddle in the corner that has perma-shade during the day, she gets hot easily, and we don't want anything to happen to her.

  43. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

I think puppy Mismsy has found a good home. ;) Fred had long hair, he was soft and nice looking, I am loving the low maintenance short haired dog model that Max is.

  44. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Thank you! :) After the way she started out, she deserves to have good things happen to her. :)

The animal shelter people told us that they found puppy-Mimsy by their back door one morning, and that she was so little at the time that they think she was dropped off just before being discovered, because she'd never have lasted through the night outdoors in February.

If I ever get my hands on whoever thought it was okay to treat a puppy as if she's an unwanted piece of garbage, that person will be very, very sorry...! :boxing

  45. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

I am with you on that! The guy I got Max from said if they can't give away the rest of the puppies, off to the pound for them. :cry I would love them all, but can really only take care of one.

Sounds like someone was guiding Puppy Mimsy into your capable hands. Justice is Puppy Mimsy jumping in and out of a wading pool.

Now, if you get their name and address, PM me. :major :-D

  46. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

And that's why people should be forced to spay or neuter their pets. If you don't know for sure that you'll be able to get good homes for all the puppies, then don't have puppies! Granted, in your case it worked out very well for Max, but that's unfortunately not how it usually ends... :(

Tempting offer... I'll remember that! :p

  47. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

I don't believe in forced spay/neuter, but am with you on being responsible for your pup's pups. I hope Max's brothers and sisters find a home.

  48. Mimsy

Good point. People who take that responsibility seriously don't need to be forced. Only the careless ones ;)
