I have been tring to fix this for days now. I was on a site that shut down and I had 30 or so boxes popping up with warning about my hdd. I rebooted ASAP I found 3 unidinifsble files in my startup and I disabled them then I did a virus scan with Microsoft security essentials. It found a severe trogan and I tried to delete it and it said to reboot for the changes to apply. Now I reboot and have a black screen with blinking curser. I tried to repair with cd,bootcfg,Chkdsk /p Chkdsk/r.I got NTLDR missing and I did a check and it is there. I ran a disk part and this is what I see partition1 fat 39 mb 32 mb free C: partition 2 ntfs 76246 mb 63987 mb free. F: partition 3 Inactive os /2 boot man 8 mb free. I have wix xp home dell 2400 dim.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Welcome to MajorGeeks, Patsy.

    Try this command: fixboot
Then press Y to confirm you want to write a new bootsector.
    exit (to reboot)

Did that help you get passed the black screen with blinking cursor?
