Xpsp3 will not let me cut,paste,moves.etc

I noticed some way back that i could not cut.paste etc (right click for context
menu),now it is on all pages including word and note pad. I do not wany to format and reinstall becuase i can't copy my pics,programs (from start) menu and c:/progarms. so all the driver updates will be lost.This is a desktop ACER power6.I spent so much time configuring the system. I feel when firefox updated, it screwed everything up. I cannot back track to tell you exactly what i did,Only i uninstalled firefox,then found the other browers were difficult to use.So I reinstalled it.
Help on this problem would be a blessing.

 

What means "could not"; what happens when you try? Can you also not use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V?

What is your Windows version?

in note pad and word ctrl+x works
nothing else, either ctrl+c,ctrl+v, and some of the items are greyed out.copy,paste,delete,cut greyed out in notepad.Cut and paste greyed out in word.The clip board reads cut and paste but not on right click mouse for context menu nor using ctrl+



The system is xpsp3 professional,
firefox 14.0.1
There is 2gigs running on this computer.

Also my system is ms windows xp professional 32bit xp3 not 64bit. so the microsoft fixit center will not load unless it's a 64bit system!

 

If you right click on the desktop or within a folder, do you get explorer's context menu?

In FFox under the 'edit' menu the following is greyed out:
undo,redo,cut,copy,paste,delete!!!

Your PC woes could well be due to some policy restrictions, so to rule that in or out do the following:

Download SystemLook as instructed here.
Enter the content of the following codebox, then click Find.

Hope this attaches...oh this is ridiculous and frustrating.

 

The problems don't appear to be policy related, so download Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Portable 1.8.0 and extract the contents of the zip file.

Run the Repair executable and go to the Start Repairs tab, then click Start and allow it to create a system restore point.

Press the Unselect All button and place a check in the following:

* Register System Files
* Repair Volume Shadow Copy Service
* Set Windows Services to Default Startup

Click on Start and when it has finished, reboot your system.
There'll be a log file created at C:\Tweaking.com_Windows_Repair_Logs, if you can, attach this log.
Let me know how things go.

Also, do you have an Xp SP3 installation disk?

 

Microsoft Fixit runs fine on 32-bit systems.

You ran both Windows Repair Portable 1.8.0 and Microsoft Fixit? Both did not find any problems on your system?

You wrote that you can use Cut (Ctrl+X), but not Copy (Ctrl+C).

Can you successfully Paste (Ctrl+V) after using Cut?

 

A few more questions:

• does that also happen right after you restart Windows?
• do you have any strange software installed, like a "registry cleaner"?
• do you use Virtual PC or other VM software?

Registry cleaner was 0 bytes deleted it anyway it was an empty zip file but it was empty.i never used it i think.,virtual box i have opened once but did not use it.
Yes the greying out of the context menu happens on boot up.
win word:by accident i opened the paste pallette,it works,ie i can paste from the pallette.
At the moment.I ran all parts of tweak this time. still same!
ctrl-v does not work,if i cut the context menu is greyed out,
tried it again ctrl-v,x,c working!.....?
context menu working. ie if i copy, then move the curser else where cut and copy are greyed out so that u you can only do the logical thing which is not greyed out,paste.
NOTEPAD-
all working including context menu and short cuts using ctrl+
Had tried to engage fixit centre:fixit center setup encountered an error,please exit and try set up later. Many times. Ran from fix it center:fix programs that will not load or uninstall.Then gave up as it gave me no return message.
I do not know why it is working now let me try and copy text from a web page to word...oh my GOD, it worked.
