We wish to purchase a "simple" (basic) AIO printer for our home, IN-expensively (in the $30-to-$80 range), to perform rather occasional printing - a page (or three), perhaps a couple or three times per month (maybe once or twice a week at most).

We are finding the process quite confusing. With all the various models and information available, well, again - very confusing.

What, praytell, is an "MFP" (Multiple Function Printer"?)? At one point in an Epson description, under "What's Included", it reads:

Printhead, one each: DURABrite Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow". . .

. . do we really need to know what the heck MFP's and PRINTHEAD'S (etc., etc., etc...) are, to not get "taken" (ripped-off) on a cheap-printer deal??

Please . . . please, please, please - any help with this, at all, is very much welcomed, and very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    g

That is another way to tell you that the printer comes with the cartridges, black and color. When I Am in need of buying a printer, I take into consideration the price of the cartridges, because in some of them, each cartridge costs around $80.00 bucks and for that price you can buy other printer, cheapest, and still have money for a coffee. So my printer is an HP "multifunction" (scanner, printer, copier, some come with Fax and some are wireless), and each cartridge costs around $24.00 for the color and $21.00 for black at Walmart. If you are looking for refillable ones, some people say that it is cost efective, but better be informed about the procedure, easy but messy.

Thanks chapincito ... granted, we have seemingly spent a small FORTUNE on INK ALONE over the years (as with most folks I would guess), and there seems to be much interest/"discussion" in that specific subject itself (let alone the printers themselves...print-"heads" and MFT'S!).

Again I thank you, and am going back to take another look at the inexpensive Canon model which supposedly has cartridges starting as low as $10!!

One final question on this if I may, please . . .

A review on the printer I wish to purchase states:

"Canon, unlike HP with its Photosmart 5010, offers a full-featured PC printer driver. The unit has the regular panoply of layout options such as booklet and "n-up," or tiled, pages (multiple pages reduced in size and printed on a single sheet of paper)" . . .

Can someone tell me what "a full-featured PC printer driver" means, please?

    Thanks in advance,
    g

*Clarification from my last post*: I may have been incorrect about 'Canon and a $10 ink cartridge'.

Are you sure you want a Canon?

The reason why some printer cartridges are cheaper is because they don't include the print head on the cartridge. When the print head is on the printer, it clogs easier because it doesn't get replaced when you install a new cartridge.

Even though the carts cost more, I'm sticking with HP. I have a printer here purchased around 1998 that is still working with generic carts. (Not one of our main printers).

Last year I purchased the HP AIO Deskjet 1055 http://www.walmart.com/ip/printers/15657956 when it was on sale at Target for $29. I don't think this model is available.
I didn't need another printer (we currently have 5 in the house) but I did need to replace my aging Visioneer scanner and this was the best way to do it.

I don't fire the AIO up often but when I need to scan and print something or simply make copies of documents, it works without any problem, both color or black and white copies.

I'm not sure what the newer replacement model is but before you buy, google reviews. Some models are better than others. I did my research before I bought this.

Last full featured is described in what you copied
If you use this a lot, then you either need a "full featured" printer driver or you can use a software program to do the same thing.
I use something called Fine Print, a paid program that allows me to print from 1 to 8 pages on a single sheet of paper.

WOW!!! PLODR!!! That is a VERY thorough response...TREMENDOUS THANK YOU for YOUR TIME and EFFORT!!!! :):wave:major;):)

    However... rolleyes :-D

    We don't think (?) we really print "much" . . . (??).

That said, it does vary, and maybe one month we might print as many as 40, 50, or even 60 pages (again, in a month), but most months it will be more like a page or two every few days..maybe 10-30 pages a month, on "average".

Based on that (and several hours of research), here is the deal that seems to fit best for our budget (or so-called "budget"!?!):

    1 Canon PIXMA MG2120 Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer/Copier/Scanner

*BONUS: 1 Wintec FileMate 4GB SWIVEL USB Flash Drive, Black

**Extended Warranty ($4) 2 Year Replacement Plan for Home Office items $20 - $39.99

    $41.52 (includes tax) - delivered
    (within [approx.] the week).

I don't think this is too bad of a deal, even considering your caveat(s), is it? :yum
