unwanted redirects, no evidence in scans ??

    hi,
I have a newer windows 7 pc running microsoft security essentials. For the last few days I have been getting random redirects when i click links in a google search page. I've been using firefox, and I have reinstalled the latest version of firefox, java, adobe. Tried trend mico housecall, spybot,ad-aware, and a few other scanners, they could not find a problem. Then I found your site. I read the fixing google redirects sticky, did all that, no fix. then I did the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide, and got up to Step 4: Do You Still Have Problems, and Yes, I’m still having problems.
I'm having intermittent redirects to sites that are unrelated to whatever link I've clicked. For example, I'll click on netflix in a google results page, and be taken to an ebay auction for dvd sleeves? More often, I'll just get a mostly white page of random looking search results that I'm pretty sure would lead to more malware....

Once tdskiller found C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\11\Intel 32\IDriverT.exe and I though it was maybe a bad file so I quarantined it. I still have the problem, so maybe I should restore that file?

anyway, I've attached the logs from the scans, hope it means something to someone....

one of the logs got stuck to my first test post - won't let me re-attach it. here's the link.

    thanks,

I'll just be over here... :banghead

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Uninstalling and reinstalling is not good enough. You must delete ALL of the Firefox folders after uninstalling too before you reinstall.

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:
    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1 Final

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.

After reboot, delete the below folders:
    C:\Users\Keith-i7\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better?

Since my post, I ran ESET online scanner using internet explorer, and it found and removed a couple things.

C:\MGtools\Process.exe Win32/PrcView application cleaned by deleting - quarantined
C:\Users\Keith-i7\AppData\Local\Temp\ICReinstall_mozilla-firefox-toDownload.exe a variant of Win32/InstallCore.AT application cleaned by deleting - quarantined
    C:\Users\Keith-i7\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\jaz5e6bi.default\extensions\gmrtpxhfmt@gmrtpxhfmt.org.xpi JS/Redirector.NCA trojan deleted - quarantined

then I rebooted and it has not messed up since.

When I got your reply I followed the procedure, so far I have not been redirected from anything. So far so good :) Only thing different was I clicked remove settings when uninstalling mozilla, and after reboot there was no roaming folder to delete.

I am hoping that it is clean now..... I've been reading the malware prevention posts, seems like a lot of good info in there. I restarted system restore, and turned up the user account control slider, and rebooted one more time. where do i go from here?

    thanks

The one I highlighted above is a clear false detection. It is used by MGtools and dozens of other tools. It is just a command line process manager used to list and or kill processes to aid in malware removal.

I have no idea what the other two items are.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
