Please help! I am infected!

It seems my problems are just getting worse despite trying to fix things. It first started off as an FBI Moneypak screen when I tried to launch Internet Explorer. My icons started disappearing from the desktop and Start Menu. I think I also have the Zero Access rootkit malware. And now malware-bytes is saying there are infections with svchost files in numerous places but it won't remove them. I now also cannot boot in safe mode and I keep getting check disk warnings when I reboot. I also can't access the internet.

I read the Read Me and here are the logs.

I could not run HitMan Pro because I cannot access the free trial (probably because the infected computer is a work computer so it belongs to a domain).

I could not run TDSSKiller even after trying to rename it and run as administrator.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You actuall have quite a few different infections on this PC.

Also I notice you have Win 7 installed but I see Vista Master Boot Record showing. Was this PC upgraded from Vista to Win 7?

We need to collect another log before continuing with cleanup.

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan.

For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

Hi chaslang! Thanks so much for getting back to me!

It seems like you said I am having a whole bunch of problems. When I got this PC it had Windows 7 on it. I don't know if it was ever upgraded from Vista. It's 32-bit.

I downloaded Farbar onto a flash drive as instructed, but wasn't able to get anywhere past the step after selecting "Repair your computer". What displays next is a black screen saying "Windows is loading files...." and a grey bar underneath. It's frozen on this screen. Yesterday when I was trying to reboot I kept getting check disk warnings but I was able to log in (when I logged in, there was a message about needing the Windows license key and on the bottom right of the screen it said "This copy of Windows is not genuine"). Today when I try to start the computer it gives me 2 options:
    1) Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
    2) Start Windows Normally
Both of these options then go to the screen with the "Windows is loading files..." and stops there.

I will continue to try and reboot and see if I can follow your steps but so far I keep getting hung up on that frozen screen "Windows is loading files..."

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    You're welcome.

So does this PC have a valid license for Windows 7? Do you know for sure?

So are you saying that now the PC will not boot up at all no matter what you do? Or is it only a problem when trying to use the Advance Boot Options?

At this point I can't get it to boot up at all. It goes straight to Windows Error Recovery with the two options
    1) Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
    2) Start Windows Normally
and both of these options go to the next screen "Windows is loading files..."

I left it on that screen for over an hour but nothing happened. It doesn't seem like there is any disk activity.

It is a work computer so I'm pretty sure it is a valid copy of Windows 7. The warning I was getting only started yesterday.

Thanks for any more help you can provide.

Without being able to boot the PC, there is not too much we can do for you. If you have Windows 7 Boot DVD you could try the startup repair from the DVD rather than from the System Recovery that is preinstalled.

Other options would be to make a special boot CD ( like one of the below ) but be for warned that while these can sometime get rid of infections, they can also remove infected system files which again render a PC unbootable.

Currently, you don't have much of a choice though unless you have a Windows 7 Boot DVD or unless you want to try removing the hard disk and putting it into another PC as a slave drive and possibly manually deleting the infections we could see from your first log.

Thanks again for the information you provided. I downloaded the Kaspersky Rescue Disk and was able to run the scan from the disk. It found a bunch of trojans. I am now trying to run Startup Repair and hopefully the computer will be able to start. It's been running for 10-20 minutes now so hoping it is actually doing something!

    You're welcome.
Okay and if it still fails to boot up, try running startup repair again. Sometime it can take two or three tries to get it to work properly.

Things are looking up! I left Startup Repair to run overnight and despite saying that it failed to repair, the next time it booted up, everything looked back to normal. I can see icons on my desktop and programs on the Start menu. The only problem seems to be connecting to the internet. I tried playing around with it but was only able to get a limited connection to our wifi network once. Any advice on that front? Also, should I rescan my computer again and if so which tools should I use? And do you think any personal information was compromised or was this trojan mainly to annoy the heck out of people?

Thank you so much for all the advice so far!

    You're welcome.
Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks again for getting back to me! The Windows Repair program didn't take quite that long. After rebooting the wireless router, I'm back on the internet on the (hopefully now) previously infected computer! I'm so relieved!

I ran MGTools and am attaching the log.

I also ran RogueKiller which seems to have found something, but Malwarebytes and TDSSKiller (which I was able to run this time) were clean.

I can't thank you enough for helping me through this! I am so grateful and relieved that this seems to be fixed!!!

    You're welcome.

    Great news! :)

I also ran RogueKiller which seems to have found something [/QUOTE]Yes these are still left overs from the ZeroAccess infection you had. We need to fix these.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of

Okay I just noticed 3 more files that you need to delete. Delete the below:
    C:\ProgramData\-0GLMvABJJybcKk
    C:\ProgramData\-0GLMvABJJybcKkr
    C:\ProgramData\0GLMvABJJybcKk

If you get those delete, you should be ready to complete the below final instructions.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
