With Windows 8 going 'metro' and looks like it was written for a tablet and Windows Vista and 7 taking "control" out of the users hands, have OS'es just became a platform for apps? I just don't feel like I control my PC anymore, I just run apps.
Think about it Explorer use to let you have buttons to copy and paste, move files and folders, now you can open folders and right click to see 'hidden' options. And with app signing, you can't take another version of explorer and copy it to another OS.

OSes have always been platforms for applications.

I think what you are looking to say is, Microsoft is trying to create Internet appliances out of computers with Windows 8.

It is disgusting, to say the least. Luckily for me, I have no whims of leaving Microsoft behind if I need to. I'd miss ViStudio and Office, but thats it.

I saw no need to boot to Linux for a poll.

Because you are thread hijacking and making personal spats. It will not be tolerated. You have an issue with me? Take it to PMs. Not foogoo's thread. This will be the only and last communication regarding this.

And yeah, I would go to Linux, because it is just as useful as any other OS is. In my case, it is more useful than others.

If you say so. I am an Android developer and java programmer. I don't expect a you to understand such things and know why Linux is useful to me.

Nor do I feel a need to explain. This all boils down to you thinking you know what everyone needs OSes for and that simply isn't true (for anyone).

As for your post being deleted, we all know your intentions. You are trying to get a rise from me. Not happening, bud. Now you made a liar out of me and I talked more about it.

Report the thread if you like, or discuss it via PM. We aren't doing this here.

Have a read. It will become obvious quite quickly.

It is not a 'will' improve my productivity. It is a 'does' improve my productivity.

I have a Windows machine for classes. I need MS Project, SQL Server, Visual Studio, and Access. LOL.

That is fine. I don't expect a cabinetmaker to understand this stuff. ;)
Much like you wouldn't expect me to know how to build a cabinet.

Because you didn't read, I will s-p-e-l-l it out for you.

    Linux enhances my productivity because:
    • My tools are cross platform.
    • Android cannot be compiled in Windows.
    • Android is more Linux friendly when it comes to development.
    • Windows can and does screw up Android permissions.

Now you are talking nonsense. Not only was it not overstated, but you have no clue what I actually do. You are not qualified to make such claims.

It is amusing though, not to mention it makes you look silly, so feel free ;)

I have no tether to Windows. I haven't for several years.

I'm currently running Slackware and Debian, and my router/friewall runs FreeBSD (pfSense). My wife and daughter use a Windows 7 box which I administer; I use it on occasion too. :)
